History of Kona UniversityKona University was originally founded on December 13, 1994, as American Pacific University, located in Honolulu, Hawaii. At its inception, the University offered distance education courses as part of directed independent study programs. The purpose of the degree programs at the University was to provide learning, on a much more flexible basis than can be accomplished at traditional colleges and universities. American Pacific University, a for-profit organization, offered degree in both Esoteric Studies and Clinical Hypnotherapy at the Bachelor’s, Doctoral, and PhD levels.

Since its inception, Kona University has remained an industry leader, well respected worldwide for its educational programs. Kona University consistently focuses on the mind-body-spirit connection. The student body at Kona University is quite broad and diverse, with individuals from all over the world. The number of students has consistently grown over the years, with accom-plished graduates utilizing their newly acquired skills and knowledge for both themselves and in practice with others.

In 2006, a decision was made to develop an online Master’s Degree Program in Transpersonal Psychology. In keeping with the technological trend and the increased use of computers at both work and home, it seemed only fitting that a sophisticated online program be developed. This program allows students to study anytime, anywhere.

In 2007, after much review and consideration, the University strategically decided to incorporate two separate schools: The

School of Transpersonal Psychology represents the new Master’s Degree Program and the School of Esoteric and Hypnotherapy Studies, representing the original degree programs. In order to focus on the new Master’s Degree Program and provide a quality first-rate education, Kona University is no longer accepting students into the Clinical Hypnotherapy and Esoteric Degree Programs at this time. However, students currently enrolled in this school will complete their educational degree, as intended.

In 2009, the University’s Online NLP Certificate Program at the practitioner level, achieved accreditation with The Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). This Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Programs are the first of its kind in being offered online, as opposed to only in-person as a live event.

In the summer of 2009, the University moved to a new campus in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and has begun its next phase of develop-ment for expansion and growth.

In 2011, the University’s second accredited certificate program, Online NLP Trainer’s Certificate Program, was launched in response to the market demand for an online NLP education at a higher level.

Kona University is committed to develop innovative programs that meet the needs of society and students, and is excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead, for both students, instructors, and staff.

PROVIDING A QUALITY, FIRST-RATE EDUCATION

Accreditation and AffiliationsIn 2009, Kona University achieved national accreditation with the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) after a thorough review process. The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency. The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council is a recognized member of the Council for Higher Educa-tion Accreditation (CHEA). The curriculum for the Online NLP Practitioner Certificate Program satisfactorily met the high academic and educational standards that DETC requires.

For more information concerning DETC, please contact them directly at: 1601 18th Street, N.W., Suite 2, Washington, D.C. 20009, (202) 234-5100, http:///www.detc.org.

You can feel confident in choosing Kona University for your certification. Accreditation is a very thorough process of ensuring

quality control, completed by an independent and government-recognized accrediting body. Legitimate accrediting bodies are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) or the Council on Higher Education, or both. If you graduate from a school that is not legitimately accredited, your credentials could restrict your employment or further educational opportunities.

Before you choose a university, please check with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General’s Office in the state in which the school is located to see if any investigations or litigations against the school exist, past or pending.

The State of Hawaii does not regulate the issuance of academic degree programs. According to the Hawaiian Postsecondary Governance Structures (rev. 10/2007), approval authority for proprietary vocational and technical schools lies within the State Department of Education. Regarding private degree-granting institutions, Hawaii has statutory requirements relating to disclosure and potential (prohibited) practice but not an approval/licensing law

“Accreditation ensures the highest quality in academics and helps in the acceptance of the learners’ credentials. The accreditation standards of DETC are the highest possible, and DETC approval is the learner’s best assurance that his or her education is valid and will be accepted.”- Michael P. Lambert, Executive Director Distance Education and Training Council

The Online NLP Practitioner Certificate Program

Program Objectives The Online NLP Practitioner Certificate Program, whether for those who are already practitioners in the healing arts or those aspiring to be, allows the student a whole new world of infinite possibilities. The student will be able to practice in an innovative field, and be immersed in cutting-edge philosophies and techniques to help both the self and in working with others.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, there are also numerous individuals in a variety of related fields that are looking to enhance their skills and knowledge base for working with and assisting clientele in the future. This group of people includes primarily those in the broad-based category of mental health counselors and other health practitioners. It is important to note that in no way does the Online NLP Practitioner Certificate Program prepare students to practice in these professions upon completion, but adds to the current profession they are practic-ing in and expands their ability to provide additional support to those that they work with on an everyday basis. By “additional support,” this is referring to the ability of the individual to have a deeper understanding of the client that he/she is working with, now having a basic foundation of NLP from which to pull from as well as an enhanced set of healing modalities from which to choose from.

Lastly, in many workplaces and within a variety of careers, the employee will be placed in situations in which there will be an onus on their ability to successfully communicate with those around them. The NLP Online Training offered by Kona University could enable the employee to give more powerful presentations and speeches, as well as work more cohesively in team environ-ments, handle meetings more efficiently, and lead dynamic group activities.

Assignments and learning materials are downloadable from this site. Audio-visual presentations are also incorporated to enhance the students’ learning experience. Students are requested to participate in one session each week and will complete both written and reading assignments. Assignments can be individual but with the flexibility to also work in a team with other students on projects during the course.
