SilencedCharlene Shroulote, senator for the graduate school, said she appealed a motion made by Oxford to silence Ash and Schoonover during the Senate meetings, but the motion did not pass. However, another motion was passed to al
low Schoonover and Ash to vote on their own impeachment resolutions.“I don’t think they should have been silenced at all,” Shroulote said. “They were sworn in by ASNMSU as senators. That night [at the Senate meeting] the CEL had
no vote, no voice on anything presented.”
The voteSchoonover and Ash were given a chance to defend themselves to the Senate before voting. “I tried to do that as professionally as I could,” Schoonover said. “I fought as hard as I could to maintain representation for the students.”Ash presented his letter of resignation to the Senate during his 0(&".( "**)".( "2#)+( #$)( +)1,.3#%,&(to impeach Schoonover was approved 244. Derlin said the students deserve to be represented. “[CEL] students have worked in a very responsible way to get representation,” Derlin said.“The real drive behind [CEL
students] is to be represented by current student government.”
Making amendsOxford said he and Chris Ray, student attorney for ASNMSU, plan to attend the CEL college council meeting Wednesday as previously arranged by the CEL. “I think this means that ASNMSU now needs to advise our council again on what course to follow so our students are represented,” Derlin said.Oxford said he and Ray hope to help the college decide how to proceed.“There obviously may be some hard feelings between the CEL and Senate,” Oxford said. “We obviously want to smooth that out and be there to help them and to further clarify [the situation]. Advice for studentsCruzado said she cares about
the students of NMSU and has
enjoyed working with them.
Cruzado also had advice for their
success.
“Students at NMSU need to

Cruzado said. “[Based on] expe

position, and Pacheco will give
the process high priority.
“That individual will be named
as soon as the selection is made
and terms are reached,” Woods
said.
Woods said the new provost
and executive vice president will
need to have many important
skills and characteristics to take
Cruzado’s place.
“Dr. Cruzado brought many
excellent qualities to her duties
as evidenced by her recent se

“The NMSU provost position

People wandered the down
town mall taking in live music,
art, crafts and culture last Fri
day at the First Friday Ramble.
The monthly event, which
!"#$%&'(")$&*+&!,$&-.%!&/.01"2&*3&every month in the downtown
mall, showcases downtown gal
leries, live music, open micro
phone events and sometimes,
new exhibits at both downtown
museums.
“Everybody rambles around
and explores all of the different
exhibits and galleries,” said Jim
Turrentine, owner of the Main
Street Gallery and Big Picture
Digital Imaging Lounge. “It cov
ers all of downtown, and most
people visit all of the venues.
4!5%&"&6$.2&7801&$6$+!9: Many of the 13 downtown gal
leries open new shows as part
of the Ramble, and 18 galleries
participate, Turrentine said.
“It’s the only ongoing event
like it in Las Cruces,” Turrentine
said. “It’s self sustaining. It’s
not an organized event; there’s
no committee, no planning, it
just took off on it’s own.”
The Main Street Gallery
opened an exhibition of works
by local artists focusing on
pomegranates, and the Blue
Gate Gallery launched a series
of lithograph reproductions.
“It’s a great way for artists to
get exposure, and a lot of or
ganizations have membership
shows,” HosaDougherty said.
“It’s a nice early evening out for
folks that like the arts scene.”
Many local hobby and interest
groups set up booths between
the Branigan Cultural Center
and the Las Cruces Museum of
Art, hoping to gain publicity and
members, while others groups
simply promoted their causes.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity
to park and walk,” HosaDough
erty said. “Being in the down
town area, even if something is
a block away, it’s still a comfort
able distance.”
Turrentine said his favorite
part of the event is the art and
the fact that so many people
come together.
“The arts become a vehicle to
create a social mixer,” Turren
tine said. “We see some familiar
faces, people who come regular
ly, and there’s always new faces,
and new people to meet.”
The December Ramble will
take place Dec. 4 and will co
incide with the opening of new
exhibits. The Branigan Cultural
Center will hold a reception for
its exhibition, “Images of Tor
tugas,” which features the pho
tography of Robert Kaiser and
opens that Friday.
The Las Cruces Museum of
Art will hold a reception for
three new exhibits, “Swarm”
by Julia Barello, “Mirage” by
Rachelle Thiewes and “Margi
Weir: Three Decades of Inqui
ry.”
The Main Street Gallery will
begin a show featuring western
".!0%!&;*<$.!&=>,**72:&>,83$(!5%&pencil drawings.
The Blue Gate Gallery will
open a show featuring the work
of Idie Karr, an NMSU student
at the December Ramble.
“I think we’ll all be geared up
for some special things in De
cember that would make holi
day gift giving a thing to con
sider” HosaDougherty said.
“We have small works and large
works that would suit anybody’s
economic situation.”
Some participants in the
monthly event include the Art of
Life Gallery, Black Box Theatre
lobby gallery, Blue Gate Gallery,
Branigan Cultural Center, Jus
tus Wright Galeria, Las Cruces
Museum of Fine Art, The Main
Street Gallery, Rio Grande The
atre’s El Paso Electric & Car
olene Herbel de Mesilla Galler
ies, and the Unravel Gallery.
Despite construction down
town, HosaDougherty said
the Ramble will continue, and
downtown businesses will
maintain regular hours.

OLine
On the season, the offensive line has helped establish the seventh ranked rushing offense in the WAC. Players have been nicked up here and there, but for the most part, have been consistent. On the year, they have given up 15 sacks, fourth fewest in the WAC. Offensive lineman Mike Grady’s take: “Everybody needs to be on the same page and ev
erything needs to be just right.
It’s really frustrating not being
able to get anything going.”

Linebackers
In Walker’s defense, the linebackers do a little bit of everything. They run stop, drop back into coverage and do everything in between. Therefore, they take credit (and criticism) from all aspects of the defense. Walker’s Take: “There were some bright spots I thought from
a defensive standpoint in terms
of some things that we did sche

Special Teams
Special teams have been the best unit for the Aggies. Kyle Nelson has taken over punting and kicking duties and has faired well in both. Returner Marcus Anderson has been a return guru for the Aggies and received WAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors earlier this season. Walker’s Take: “Special teams has had a couple of mis

With four weeks left in the semester, students are gearing up for a lastditch effort to raise their grades – the football team is in the same situation – and there is not much time for improvement. In their last three games, the Aggies have been outscored 12410 by their opponents. Head football coach DeWayne Walker said the bye week couldn’t have come at a better time for his team. “I think for us, looking at it, this is probably the right time for us to have a bye so we can kind of !"#!$%&'()*'+)*'(',(-' .$'+)/01'up these last four games,” Walker said. Games against Hawaii, Nevada, San Jose State, and No. 7 Boise State still remain on the Aggies schedule. Meanwhile, Walker is still preaching team building and improvement to his players.

Quarterbacks
Inconsistent quarterback play has been an issue all year for the Aggies. Trevor Walls and Jeff
Fleming have split time all year long, and neither has managed to separate himself from the other. The Aggies are last in the WAC in passing offense and have scored just four touchdowns this season. Hawaii and Idaho both have 16 touchdown passes on the season
and Boise State has 24. Walkers Take: “We’ll try to start all over again to see what !"# $""%# &'# %'# &'# ("$")*&"# +),&#downs and touchdowns.”
Quarterbacks’ Grade: F
Running backs
Running back Seth Smith has emerged as a star in the Aggie offense. Smith is seventh in rushing in the WAC and averages about 80 yards a game. The rushing attack as accounted for 1,243 yards and eight of the Aggies’ 13 total touchdowns on the season.Running backs’ Grade: A
Receivers
While the Aggies are loaded with fast and talented receivers on the outside, the passing game has underachieved, due in large part to quarterback play. The offense only throws the ball about 22 times a game, while rushing more than 40 times per game. When receivers do get their hands on the ball, explosive plays ensue. Receivers Todd Lee, Marcus Allen and Marcus Anderson are averaging, as a group, 25 yards per reception. Still, the lack of big plays concerns Walker.
