Power Shift Europe: grassroots organising across thecontinent
Training outline
Aims
By the end of this training programme, participants will be able to:
➡ Have the skills and knowledge to effectively mobilise young people in their countries
through Ganz Public Narrative training and grassroots organising tools
➡ Build awareness of the international youth climate movement, their role and position
within it and the strategic campaign aims for 2011➡ Understand current EU climate policy in relation to both the UNFCCC and their national
countries with clear knowledge of the implications of a strengthening the 2020 EU
emission reduction target
➡ Be confident in facilitating and running a Power Shift event in October 2011
Trainer preparation and things to remember:
➡ The training in each country is bespoke and relies up on the trainer reading the briefing
papers attached and understanding the national and European landscape.
➡ The Monitoring form must be completed for each training sessions and the Bull’s Eye
evaluation scores must be recorded.
➡ Ensure all resources are downloaded in case their is no internet connection available.
Language tips
➡ Use natural language with bilingual young people - similar contractions, normal speed,
tone and pitch. But do speak in short, correct sentences.
➡ Avoid using confusing idioms or slang words.
➡ Give each other permission to ask ’Could you repeat that, please?’ or ‘Would you help
me, please?’
➡ Avoid asking: "Do you understand?" People will almost always say "yes" to avoid
negative attention.
➡ Attaching meaning to what you say with gestures, actions, pictures, objects. Repeating
simply and without frustration sentences, phrases and words until they are understood.
