What is climate change?

Climate change is caused by greenhouse gases (primarily carbon) being released into our atmosphere.

Carbon is a building block of life.If you weigh 150 pounds, 27 pounds of you is pure carbon.
Plants are almost half carbon.

Carbon dioxide is a carbon in its gaseous state.

Anthropogenic (human-related) climate change is when greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere by human activity:• Driving cars
• Using electricity
• Throwing garbage into the landfill

When greenhouse gases are released they increase the amount of heat trapped in the atmosphere.

Greenhouse gases act as a blanket around the Earth.

As the temperature of the Earth gets warmer, it starts to impact ecosystems:• Melting glaciers
