Section B - Project Description
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Provide an outline of your proposed project using the headers in Part A through F below. The full project description must be a maximum of 4 pages in total (12-point font, single spaced, with 1-inch). Supporting data can be included in
up to 3 pages of appendices. Include team member CVs (in CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC format) at the end of your project description and appendices. Send your complete PDF as a single file directly to [email protected]. Make your
subject line as follows: 2019 Catalyst Grant – <insert last name of the nominated applicant>. Part A – BACKGROUND & RATIONALE FOR THE PROPOSED PROJECT: Outline the need or issue being addressed and the target audience/customer or addressable market (What is the problem? Who/what is impacted?). Include a statement about the research idea and associated innovation.
Part B – PURPOSE, DESIGN, & METHODOLOGY: Briefly describe the purpose of the proposed project and how it will be accomplished. Include specific objectives/hypothesis as well as expected results, possible pitfalls & alternatives. Where possible, include the work conducted to date.
Part C – ORIGINALITY: Describe the innovative aspect of the proposed work and its potential benefit (What is it? What does it do? How will it work?). How does it differ from current work in this area?
Part D – POTENTIAL SIGNIFICANCE & IMPACT: Explain the relevance and potential value of the proposed project (Why is it important?). Include a description of how the work proposed will contribute to the future research it will help to catalyze.
Part E – TEAM TRANDISCIPLINARITY: Outline the transdisciplinary nature of the project, the expertise and role of each applicant, and how the project will be managed. (max 4000 characters)

Part F – LEVERAGING EXTERNAL SUPPORT: Explain how proposed outcomes will advance your work to enable future research funding or advance you along your commercialization path.
Section C – Budget Table & Justification
BUDGET TABLE & JUSTIFICATION
Present an itemized list of proposed costs (e.g. Salaries, Supplies, Animals, Services, Equipment, Other) followed by a budget justification for a total of 2 pages maximum – Eligible expenses include salary for employees or trainees, supplies, services and publication costs. Ineligible expenses include indirect costs, travel and general computing equipment/software. Equipment (including software to run equipment) which costs no more than 20% of the total budget and which is essential to carry out the proposed study may be requested.
