Fun ways to raise money

Fundraising involves getting your friends, family, colleagues

and acquaintances to support your initiative by making a

small donation.

You can go about it in a variety of fun and creative ways;

here are some ideas.

Fundraise at workBuckets and collection tins: A Benevolent collection tin displayed in your company’s

reception, communal kitchen or at a team fundraising event, is a simply yet effective way

to raise money and awareness of our work. Every donation helps us reach even more of

our colleagues in need and even small change really does make a big difference!

Get in touch with us to order your company’s bespoke bucket or collection tin.

Book swap: Bring a book into work for your colleagues to read and encourage them

to do the same, in return for a small donation.

Company fun day: Entertain your colleagues by organising a canteen football table

tournament or hooplas with bottles and charge a small fee for playing the games.

Fantasy football: Stir up your competitive instincts and organise a fantasy football league

with your friends, colleagues for an entry fee of £5 that will be donated to The Benevolent.

Hearty breakfast: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so make your

colleagues’ a special one! Organise a breakfast in your office, treating your colleagues

to delicious bacon butties, healthy granola and yogurt, or to fresh fruit in return of a

small donation for your trade charity.

Organise a photo caption competition: Ask people to bring in a funny

photo or baby picture. Photocopy the photos and create a sheet where

people can add their captions or guess who’s who for a donation.

It’s Christmas time: Feeling the festive spirit? Then share it with your

colleagues and organise a Christmas jumper day in your workplace.

Have fun with your friends and family

Bake sale: Tantalize your friends’ and colleagues’ taste buds by treating them to some delicious

home-baked goodies in return for a small donation! Make sure you promote the fact that all

proceeds will go towards vulnerable members of the UK drinks industry.

Clothes swapping: Clothes swapping parties are a fantastic way of giving a new lease of life

to unwanted items of clothing and giving your wallet a break. One person’s unwanted dress

or jumper might be another person’s favourite new outfit.

Garden party: Cucumber sandwiches, cupcakes and garden tables – perfect! Charge a small

fee for a pleasant afternoon outdoors (but have an indoor space as backup in case of rain).

International evening: Curry, fajitas or pad thai – spice up your culinary skills and invite your

friends and family over for a succulent international dinner.

Quiz time: Whether you are a general knowledge mastermind or just want to have a bit of fun,

everyone enjoys a nice quiz night! Pubs are the most popular venues, but you can hold one in

your local community centre, college or village hall.

Pub games: Darts, pool, cards... just share your idea with your local pub landlord or landlady,

charge people to enter and let the fun begin.

Stock clearance: Organise a big clearance of your company’s

superfluous sample stock and offer it for sale at your

community centre or village hall raising vital funds

for your trade charity.

Active events

Dog walk: Walk your neighbours’, friends’ or relatives’

dog in return for a small donation.

Run for your trade charity: Whether is a 5K, or a marathon,

there are plenty of running events taking place all year that

you can get involved with, so it’s time to dust off your

trainers and get active.

Challenge yourselfBike ride: Pedal towards better fitness whilst supporting

vulnerable members of the trade! Why not join a bike ride

or organise one with a group of fellow riders and raise vital

funds for your trade charity?

Overseas challenge event: Challenge yourself with an

extreme holiday; why not trek the Machu Picchu, cycle

the Rajasthan or run through the vineyards of Bordeaux

whilst raising vital funds for your trade charity?

Something a bit differentEveryclick: Did you know that you could raise funds for The Benevolent

just by searching the internet – at no cost to you or us? We have

partnered with Everyclick, a search engine that generates money by

advertising, and then donates half of the revenue generated to charities

chosen by its users. All you have to do is register yourself and set

Everyclick as your homepage; every time you or your colleagues search

the internet it will raise vital funds for your colleagues in need.

Jumble sale: Dig under your bed, clean out your closet and organise

a fun sale of unused items.

Unwanted presents: Is it time to clean up your cupboard and storage areas?

Then why not sell the unwanted gifts and donate the proceeds to your trade charity?

Company match: Double the money you raise by asking your company to

match the funds raised or to make a donation towards your personal challenge

or event.

Meet our fundraisers

WarrenI have long admired the tireless work The Benevolent does for vulnerable

people within our wonderful drinks industry. It truly hit home when

I heard about the fantastic support the charity provided a friend

diagnosed with MND, confirming how much I care for my trade

charity, which I might need to rely on one day too.

People take on personal challenges for various reasons; they can take

on many different shapes depending on the individual. Because of my

love of cycling I decided to ride the length of Great Britain, an epic

journey of 969 miles in just 9 days. It doesn’t matter if you are taking

on that once in a lifetime challenge or baking cake for an afternoon

tea in the office, I assure you it really does make a difference.

One of my aims was to raise awareness about the amazing job the charity does,

literally changing the lives of people we might personally know.

I am unsure what my next challenge will be but I know who it will be for...

my trade charity, The Benevolent.

EvaI have worked as a Pub Manager in London for a number of years now, and last year

I decided it was time to give something back to my own community by organising a

‘Top Hat and Tiara’ New Year’s Eve Fundraiser in aid of The Benevolent.

I had heard a lot about The Benevolent’s amazing work with vulnerable publicans,

and other members of the drinks industry community, and wanted to support this

by organising a fundraising initiative in the pub. Although the evening was in aid of

the trade charity my regular customers embraced the idea with great enthusiasm.

Organising the event was quite straightforward: we simply asked our customers

to make a donation on the door to The Benevolent instead of a general entrance

fee, which is standard for pubs in London on New Years Eve. We ensured that

information about the charity was readily available so everyone knew what the

evening was in aid of.

It was wonderful to see people with no connection to the drinks industry supporting

the idea of the trade taking care of its own and they were keen to hear more about

The Benevolent’s mission and why we were fundraising on its behalf.
