Welcome to Cambridge Judge Business School

Executive Education Open Enrolment Programmes 2018Our Executive Education Portfolio comprises over 20 programmes that will extend your skills and understanding to achieve your organisational, personal development and career objectives.

These programmes are designed for business professionals and leaders from organisations around the world seeking new perspectives and insights on key management issues.

2 Contents 3

“Executive Education programmes set in a business school environment offer participants a safe place to pose questions that cannot be asked in the workplace.

Participants are able to have new experiences and to experiment with things that might be seen as too risky, or inappropriate, in the organisational context. This allows not only intellectual, but also emotional learning and crucially, learning by doing, directly related to problems that participants have in their professions.

The learning process is not one-way – we ‘teach’ part of the time, showing people concepts they are not yet familiar with, but this experience becomes really valuable when we co-develop with our participants and in this way they are able to build up essential new skills and capabilities to take back to their organisations.”Professor Christoph LochDirector, Cambridge Judge Business School Professor of Management Studies

Embrace the Cambridge spirit of achievement. “The Cambridge General Management Certificate of Achievement enabled me to work towards a goal while having the flexibility to choose subjects tailored to my individual development needs.

Cambridge has got the balance right between the theoretical and practical application of the material being taught. The real life examples and case studies brought the material to life and provided me the guidance to implement strategies that have had an immediate impact in my organisation.

In most USA training programmes the participants are from similar backgrounds, but at Cambridge everyone had different experiences so it made the teaching and discussion very rich. It was amazing.

I would recommend the programme to anyone and I will definitely be coming back to Cambridge.”

The Cambridge Negotiations Lab

Overview

The programme aims to help you design strategic renewal and changes that will boost your firm’s competitiveness and profitability. You will learn how to develop a strategic renewal plan that maps the reconfiguration of capabilities and key activities with close attention to implementation challenges.

The programme examines how executives respond to opportunities and challenges that require significant reconfiguration of their firm’s resources and capabilities. Strategic change can be triggered when firms deepen their strategy and may need to reconfigure (create, modify, discard) their competencies.

Diversification into new product categories and geographical expansion into new markets can also quickly expose the boundaries of a successful strategy. New growth initiatives demand major changes in a company’s relationships and capabilities. Likewise, when the industry is disrupted by shifts in technology, customer preferences and competitive dynamics, significant renewal of the firm’s strategy may become the only way to survive. Strategic renewal and change are a constant necessity and reality of executives’ lives and careers in various types of organisations.

Innovation

Overview

Maintaining competitive advantage is key to the ongoing success of any business. In the current climate, innovation can no longer be considered the remit of CEOs or senior management – it must be looked upon as a broader capability that is encouraged and instilled throughout an organisation.

Innovation comes in many forms, from business models to new products and basic technology development. What is key for organisations is to foster an environment that supports innovative thinking, developing a wider ecosystem that broadens the input and capability of the business.

This five-day programme is designed for senior executives to consider all the activities required to elevate innovation as a core organisational management capability; to create a culture that innovates consistently, systematically and with tangible results. At the end of the five days, participants leave with a clear action plan of how to take the next steps in driving this innovative management capability within their own organisations.

Operations ManagementOur operations management programmes enable executives to delve into the administration of business practices to create the highest level of efficiency possible within an organisation. Our focus is concerned with converting materials and labour into goods and services as efficiently as possible to maximise the profit of an organisation. Operations innovation has proven to be key for growing and maintaining competitive advantage, and this is partly driven through superior operations management throughout the organisation.

Dr Kishore SenguptaAcademic Programme Director

Overview

Organisations often rely on managers to lead and execute specific projects in order to realise their broader strategic objectives. Mergers, acquisitions, product launches and strategic realignments all demand skills in navigating complexity, understanding risk and effective stakeholder management. If their managers lack such capabilities, then they will struggle to take advantage of new opportunities, drive change or continue to create value.

Leading Strategic Projects Successfully is a three-day programme that provides managers with this more holistic view. We adopt a managerial – rather than a technical – perspective, and focus on issues that concern those who lead projects. We also consider the impact on those who may have oversight and those who will be required to implement new initiatives.

Topics

• Project planning and complexity, control and monitoring

• Risk management• Managing stakeholders and monitoring teams• Strategy cascading

Benefits

• Enhanced project-based skills set• Improved planning and control• Effective handling of complexity and

uncertainty in order to cope with difficult external environments

• Understanding and managing project teams and stakeholders’ relationships

Delivering Process Excellence: Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification

Overview

This five-day programme provides participants with a deep understanding of how to deliver process excellence, and equip them with a practical toolkit to achieve sustainable improvements in their own organisation’s processes. We shall use Lean Six Sigma, a well-established methodology that enables individuals and organisations to improve the efficiency, productivity and quality of products and services. The concepts, tools and techniques of Lean Six Sigma are based on understanding and meeting customer needs, being responsive to change and reducing waste, thereby continually improving quality.

Certification

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt CertificationThis programme will examine thoroughly the concepts of Lean and Six Sigma. Participants will develop proficiency in the use of process improvement tools and techniques, with insight on both manufacturing and service contexts. Throughout the programme, we consider the challenges of Lean and Six Sigma programme implementation in real business situations.

The programme will provide participants with a body of knowledge that is consistent with the exam requirements for Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification. Subsequently, participants will demonstrate the practical application of the Lean Six Sigma concepts to a process improvement project over a six-week period to qualify for the Green Belt certificate.

Lean Six Sigma Certification ExamAt the end of the taught programme, participants will sit the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Exam. This is a two-hour closed book exam based on the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Body of Knowledge. An overview will be circulated to participants prior to the course, but the topics will be covered in totality during the taught sessions.

Lean Six Sigma projectAfter successfully passing the Green Belt Certification exam, participants will work individually over a period of six weeks on a Lean Six Sigma project to observe a process in their workplace, identify improvement opportunities and make recommendations supported by data and analysis.

The projects need to be completed prior to the project presentations approximately six weeks later in Cambridge.

Benefits

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

• Understand the drivers of process excellence • Critically analyse the processes and

performance of an organisation’s operation • Understand the Six Sigma philosophy, its

methods and phases • Comprehend the concepts of Lean Thinking

and its applications• Identify and apply Lean Six Sigma tools and

techniques to ensure lasting improvements• Observe a real-world operation in action and

identify best practice, improvements and potential innovations

• Work individually on a Lean Six Sigma project – participants will observe a process in their workplace, identify improvement opportunities and make recommendations supported by data and analysis

• Learn from a diverse cohort comprising multiple nationalities and industries

The programme has a practical focus and will involve examples and projects relevant to participants’ work areas. Completion of the programme leads to the widely recognised and formally certified Lean Six Sigma ‘Green Belt’ qualification.

Who is it for?

The programme is applicable to anyone who works in or oversees an operational role. They will be in a junior-middle-management role or be interested in gaining deep understanding of how to deliver process excellence.

As part of the application process, applicants will need to ask their line manager or sponsoring executive to fill in and sign part of the application form. We are open to multiple participants from the same company attending as this forms a great opportunity to build process improvement capability.

Marketing

Overview

Marketing is all around you – you are exposed to marketing in almost everything you do. As a result, everyone and every organisation seem to have an intuitive understanding of what marketing is all about: marketing is about selling, advertising, and promotion. Hence, marketing is just common sense. Is this really true? Is that what marketing is all about? Do you really understand the marketing management process? These are the questions which we will address and debate in this programme.

Marketing is far more than just advertising and promotion; it is first and foremost a strategic analysis of the market environment, including customer, competitor, company, context and collaborator, and then strategic execution of segmentation, targeting and positioning.

Strategic marketing management is a powerful organisational process to better reach and satisfy customers while increasing profitability and productivity. It will also help a business become more innovative and better penetrate a market.

For today’s organisations, every working day brings change. Markets are increasingly characterised by disruptive technologies and financial volatility is an everyday reality. And while all change brings opportunity, not all opportunity is easy to grasp. Not every change is easily assimilated.

At Cambridge Judge Business School we are focused on leadership, innovation and transformation. On developing new frameworks for managerial action and decision-making. On giving you the tools you need to operate in a world of real-time interconnectedness, enhanced customer demands and changing employee expectations.

We work with organisations like yours to deliver executive learning experiences that can transform individuals, teams and entire businesses – experiences which create value for individuals and companies alike.

Customised Executive Education

We start where you are, working closely with you to understand your context, your opportunities and your challenges. We then blend the latest research, world-leading academic insights and inspiring teaching to create programmes that can unlock your corporate – and personal – potential.

Above all, our interventions are focused on creating sustainable, long-term change. We will work with you to measure the impact of our engagement, not just in the weeks immediately after the programme, but on an ongoing basis – ensuring embedded, enduring impact.

You may choose to work with us with us at Cambridge, enjoying the unique experience of learning at the heart of one of the world’s most admired universities. Or, you may choose to bring our expertise directly into your local environment – we deliver executive education globally.

Wherever you experience Cambridge Judge Business School, our goal is simple: to deliver an executive education experience that ensures that you, your team and your organisation develop the skills and mind sets to push forward the boundaries of value creation.

Corporate PartnershipsGain a competitive edge with new business insights.

The Cambridge Judge Business School Corporate Partners scheme is an opportunity to create a long term, multi-faceted, strategic relationship, providing insights into ground-breaking research and access to an elite global network.

Each partnership is customised to support the needs of your organisation and its senior managers. Our team will work closely with you to design a package of high quality events, educational activities and networking opportunities. You will be introduced and connected to our Cambridge faculty and meet like-minded business professionals who want to improve performance, increase capability and identify new ways of solving future business challenges.

We want the partnership to support your organisational and developmental goals. Depending on which industry sector you are in, whether you are a large organisation or a start-up, we will help you identify what the most beneficial types of interaction might be.

Access to new knowledge

Becoming one of our Corporate Partners gives you access to a powerful network of academics, like-minded companies and Executive Education alumni who thrive on discussion and interaction. The opportunity to leverage this intellectual capital is one of the key advantages of the scheme and allows you to explore your ideas and business challenges within a stimulating and inspiring community.

Raising your profile

Corporate Partners are given the opportunity to benefit from a range of specialist branding and communication initiatives. Working in close collaboration with our marketing team and faculty, you will have the chance to generate thought leadership pieces which can be co-branded and shared with our wider network, and numerous opportunities to sponsor Executive Education events throughout the year.

Preferential rates

Reserved places and special rates are available across our range of Open Programmes as part of the partnership package. These are all designed for senior managers looking to further develop their skills and knowledge or to take on different areas of responsibility. Our team can advise you on how to select the right programme for the right people, at the right time to support both the personal and organisational development goals.
