Welcome to the creative talent in South YorkshireThank you: Open Up Sheffield

would like to thank the Open

College of the Arts for their

sponsorship, without which there

would be no event this year,

Sheffield City Council, Freeman

College and the Academy Of Makers

for their continued support and

belief in the ethos of the event.

There are many ways of supporting

the artists in this event, and to all

organisations and businesses that

offer help – thank you.

As a voluntary artist led organisation,

we need to thank all the members of

our steering group, who regularly

meet to ensure the event delivers for

both the artists and the public. They

are: Brian Holland (Chair), Karen

Graham (secretary), Jo Maltby

(treasurer), Karin Hessenberg, Simon

Clements, Tim Rose, Philippa French,

Sue Lancaster, Mark H. Wilson, Jeff

Perks, Clare Hawley, Sarah Villeneau,

Catherine Brown, Rowanna

Cadman-Bell. Also a big thank you

to those members who resigned this

year, Gaynor Lewis, Rosalie Wyatt

and Caroline Norman.

Prizes are a choice from original

artworks by:

Karen Graham – felt bag

Karin Hessenberg – ceramic tea

light

Brian Holland – ceramic

Lyn Littlewood – painting

Helen Neale – indigo dyed scarf

Tim Rose – watercolour

Mark H Wilson – painting

– and £30 towards framing from

Yorkshire Framers.

IntroductionA key feature of art practice is

endeavour. Those who claim a gift

that requires no effort probably just

forget the time they put in.

A characteristic of endeavour is that

it is often solitary, conducted in

studios, darkrooms, attics and

corners out of the public gaze.

Open Up South Yorkshire is a

glimpse into those hidden places and

an opportunity. An opportunity to

learn and to share.

For an organisation committed to

learning in the arts such as the OCA

sponsorship of Open Up is a natural

fit.

We hope you enjoy this year’s

opportunities, but more than that,

we hope you find work which

inspires you and learn something of

its production.
