Page 20: Operating Instructions - Miele · ceramic surface of the cooktop. Although the ceramic glass is shock and scratch resistant, it is not shock or scratch proof. Do not use pots or pans

The cooking surfaceYour ceramic cooktop is made of anextremely hard and durable material. The surface is scratch resistant, notscratch proof. Avoid using cookwarewith ridged bottoms. Ridged pots withdirty or chipped enamel bottoms mayscratch the cooktop if they are pulledacross the ceramic surface.

Make sure the cooktop and pot bottomsare clean before cooking. Certainitems, particularly sugar grains orcrystallized liquids such as molasses orsyrups are actually harder than ceramicand can scratch the surface if they arenot cleaned off immediately. Small orlight scratches will not affect the safetyor performance of the cooktop however.

The burner rings and touch controls arefused into the ceramic glass and areresistant to wear if properly maintained.Do not use abrasive cleaners or pads,as they may eventually wear off therings.

Pots and pans

Special cookware is not required, butas is true with all types of cookingappliances, the better the cookware, the better the performance.

Following these tips will allow you tomake the most of your ceramiccooktop.

– For the most even and energyefficient cooking, the diameter of thepots should match the diameter ofthe burners as closely as possible.

– Use cookware with thick, flat, smoothbottoms. Slightly concave bottomswill also work adequately. Pans withconvex bottoms will not cook well.

Selecting cookware

20

Page 21: Operating Instructions - Miele · ceramic surface of the cooktop. Although the ceramic glass is shock and scratch resistant, it is not shock or scratch proof. Do not use pots or pans

– Using a lid while cooking willminimize the loss of heat anddecrease the cooking time.

– Copper bottom and aluminum pansmay leave a residue on the cooktopin the form of metallic lines. This isnormal. These lines can be removedusing a non-abrasive ceramiccooktop cleaner or a sheildedscraper blade.

Be sure to clean the cooktop aftereach use. Each time the residue isallowed to melt it becomes harder toremove and may mar theappearance of the cooktop.Let the cooktop cool beforecleaning.

– Cast iron, glass or stoneware shouldnot be used because they have poorheat transfer and may scratch thesurface.

Selecting cookware
