Point/Zone Mapping

• The panel supports a flexible system to map input points tooutput points.

• The system is defaulted so that all NAC outputs are activatedby a fire alarm.

• By programming output zones, you can implement almost anydesired output activation scheme, such as “floor above/floorbelow” activation or conditional elevator recall.

• Input Points: Initiating devices such as smoke detectors, pullstations, etc.

• Zone: A group of input points (Zones 1-50 are configurable,52-63 are activated automatically).

• Output Points: NAC devices such as bells, strobes, etc.Relays are also output points.

IMPORTANT!IMPORTANT!

Inputs activate zones; zones activate outputs.

Zones 1-50 are available for the installer to program. Each input may activate one zone, however, any numberof inputs may drive the same zone.

Zones above 50 are automatically activated by inputs. For example, any input that is configured as a“waterflow” type will activate Zone 61 when it isalarmed. Any output driven by Zone 61 will activatewhen any waterflow type point is alarmed.

Zones drive outputs. Up to 4 zones may drive eachoutput, and when any of the zones driving an output areactive, the output will be active.

Personal Identification Numbers

Your system may have up to 100 different PINs.Each PIN is 4 digits long.

A PIN may be assigned to each User Number 00-15.

User codes 16-99 are available with the installationof a DS9431 Multiplex Expansion Module.

There is one PIN for each User Number. Attempting toassign the same PIN to multiple User Numbers will resultin the 3-beep error tone, and the change will not be made.

User Number 00 is designated as a Master Code. It can beused to silence alarms, reset, disable and program the unit.

How to Program: Point Programming

• Each of the points in the system can be programmed with itsown characteristics.

• Point functions simplify the programming of points byallowing you to define a common set of characteristics forsimilar points, and then assigning those characteristics toselected points as a point function.

• Local Only Operation

• Silencing

• Loop Response

When a programmed response time is selected, the system will prompt you to enter a responsetime from 1-89 seconds which will be applied to ALL functions. All functions share a singleprogrammable response time setting. If this time is set for multiple functions, the last time set willbe used. Multiplex points installed on the DS9431 have a response time tolerance of +/- 3 secondsand on-board points have a tolerance of +/- 1 second.

A limit of 20 points may be assigned to point functions that have beenprogrammed with a response time other than Fast. If more than 20 pointsare assigned to functions programmed with a response time other thanFast, an error message will be displayed: MAX PROGRAMD POINTSEXCEEDED. Switching a point function from Fast to Programmed maycause this, depending on how many points reference the point function.

STARTS AT HOMESTARTS AT HOMEFIRE SAFETYFIRE SAFETY

Adherence to NFPA 72-1996 can lead to reasonable fire safetywhen the following items are practiced:

Provide a fire warning system!

Minimize Hazards!

Smoking in bed, leaving children home alone and cleaningwith flammable liquids are the three traditional fire killers.

Most fire deaths occur in the home, the majority during sleepinghours. The minimum level of protection requires smoke detectorsto be installed outside of each separate sleeping area and on eachadditional story of the dwelling.

For added early warning protection, installdetectors in basements, bedrooms, diningrooms, utility rooms, hallways and otherseparated areas.

VII. Fire SafetyVII. Fire Safety

If Installed in Family Residences

A fire warning system may be wasted unless the family hasplanned in advance for a rapid and safe exit.

Draw a floor plan of entire house. Show two exits fromeach bedroom and two from the house. Provide exits fromwindows (if stairways are blocked).

Pre-arrange a meeting place outside and away fromresidence. All members should immediately go there onceout of building.

Provide a barricade between family members and fire, smoke and toxic gases (close all bedroom and hallwaydoors before retiring for the night.

Teach children how to open bedroom windows and safelyexit through them. If exiting is not possible, they shouldopen them and shout out for help until it arrives.

VII. Fire SafetyVII. Fire Safety

If Installed in Family Residences

PRACTICE THE PLAN WITH ALL FAMILY MEMBERS!

If fire occurs after retiring for night, wake children byshouting to them from behind your closed door. Tell themto keep their bedroom doors closed.

If the top of bedroom door is uncomfortably hot, do notopen it! Shout to all family members to keep their doorsclosed and exit via alternate routes.

If the top of the door is not uncomfortably hot, brace thebottom of the door with your foot and the top with one handand open it one inch. Slam the door if there is any pressureagainst it or if any hot air rushes in.

If there is no excessive heat or pressure, leave room and shutdoor. Shout appropriate instructions to others. Drop to handsand knees and crawl if heavy smoke is present.

VII. Fire SafetyVII. Fire Safety

If Installed in Family Residences

Proper location of detection devices is one of the most criticalfactors in a fire alarm system:

Avoid “dead air” spaces or areas close to ventilating or airconditioning outlets when installing smoke detectors - smokemay be circulated away from detectors. Locations near airinlets should be favored.

Avoid areas subject to normal smoke concentrations such askitchens, garages or fireplaces.

Do not install smoke detectors where normal air temperaturesare above 100°F (38°C) or below 32°F (0°C).

Avoid areas of high humidity and dust concentrations.

The edge of ceiling mounted detectors should be no closerthan 4 inches (10 cm) from any wall. Place the top edge ofwall mounted detectors between 4 and 12 inches (10 & 30 cm)from the ceiling.
