    Purpose of the OPMP CertificationCandidates who earn the OPMP certication will havedemonstrated a well-rounded understanding and knowl-edge o the management o acility operations andmaintenance and their impact on HVAC&R systemsperormance. The OPMP examination is designed toassess an individuals understanding o how the manage-ment o HVAC&R operations helps to achieve and main-

    tain building perormance goals.

    Who Can ParticipateParticipation in ASHRAEs OPMP program requires that acandidate meet eligibility requirements and successullycomplete the programs examination. Membership inASHRAE is not a prerequisite to participate inthe program.

    Eligibility RequirementsAny individual who meets one o the ollowing sets oacademic and work experience requirements will beeligible to take the examination or the OPMP certication. Government-issued or government-recognized license as a

    proessional engineer or building contractor and a minimum

    o two (2) years experience in acility operations

    Minimum of Bachelors degree in engineering or relatedeld rom an accredited institution o higher learningand a minimum o ve (5) years experience in one othe ollowing areas: acilities operations/management,construction, design, or consulting, including a minimumo two (2) years experience in acility operations

    Associates degree or Technical degree or certicate inbuilding design, construction, construction management,acility operation, or a related eld rom an accredited

    institution o higher learning and a minimum o ve (5) yearsexperience in one o the ollowing areas: acilities operations/management, construction, design, or consulting, including aminimum o two (2) years experience in acility operations

    High school diploma or equivalent or construction-relat-ed trades training or building operations training rom anationally or internationally recognized trade associa-tion with a minimum o seven (7) years experience inone o the ollowing areas: acilities operations/man-agement, construction, design, or consulting, including aminimum o two (2) years experience in acility operations

    Testing RequirementsCandidates who have completed and submitted the OPMPapplication and who have received approval thereo romASHRAE can enroll or the Operations and PerormanceManagement Proessional examination. To earn the Opera-tions and Perormance Management Proessional certica-tion, the candidate must successully pass the examinationin ull; no partial credit or this examination will be given.

    Completing and Submitting

    the ApplicationTo participate in ASHRAEs Operations and PerormanceManagement Proessional program, a candidate must

    complete and submit an application. Within a reasonabletime ater receiving a candidates application, ASHRAEwill notiy the candidate either o ASHRAEs acceptanceand approval o the application or o ASHRAEs denial oapproval and the reasons thereore.

    (ASHRAE has a process in place i a candidates applica-tion is denied and the candidate wants to reapply. Pleasecontact [email protected] to request inormationon this process.)

    I an application is declined by ASHRAE or cancelled bythe applicant, the amount o the ee, less $50 to coveradministrative costs, will be reunded to the applicant.

    About the ExaminationThe examination or the OPMP program is a proctored, closedbook/closed notes, 2.5-hour, 115-item multiple-choice test.A candidates score is based on 100 o the items; the other15 items, which are interspersed throughout the examina-tion, are included or trial or pre-test purposes.

    A detailed content outline or the OPMP examination isprovided on page 7. This outline identies the ollowingaspects o the examination:

    The four major content areas, as well as tasks withineach area, that the examination covers

    The number of examination items devoted to each majorcontent area

    The number of items at each cognitive level that acandidate is likely to use in responding to items in eachmajor content area

    The three cognitive levels tested on the OPMP examination are:

    1. Recall: The ability to remember or recognize specicinormation

    2. Application: The ability to comprehend, relate, orapply knowledge to new or changing situations

    3. Analysis: The ability to synthesize inormation sometimes rom a variety o sources, determine solu-tions, and/or evaluate the useulness o a solution

    Scheduling an ExaminationAter receiving notication that your application has beenapproved, you may schedule an examination appointmentby one of the following methods. Be prepared to conrm

    a date, time, and location or testing and to provide yourASHRAE identication number.

    1. Schedule Online: The candidate may schedule anexamination appointment online at any time by using theOnline Scheduling service at www.goAMP.com. To usethis service, ollow these easy steps:

    Go to www.goAMP.com and select Candidates.

    Follow the simple, step-by-step instructions to chooseyour examination program and schedule the examination.

    2. Telephone Scheduling: Call AMP at 888-519-9901to schedule an examination appointment. This toll-reenumber is answered rom 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (CentralTime) Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.on Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

    I special accommodations are being requested, pleasesubmit a Request or Special Examination Accommoda-tions orm prior to contacting AMP at 888-519-9901 toschedule your examination.

    Assessment Center LocationsExaminations are administered by computer at over 150AMP Assessment Centers geographically distributedthroughout the United States. Assessment Centers aretypically located in H&R Block ofces. Assessment Centerlocations, detailed maps and directions are available onAMPs website, www.goAMP.com. Specic address inor-mation will be provided when a candidate schedules anexamination appointment.

    The rst reschedule or deadline extension with a two-daynotice will be ree; any additional reschedules or exten-sions will be at ull price. Similarly, a candidate canextend the 90-day deadline or registering or and takingan exam by emailing [email protected] at least twobusiness days prior to the 90-day deadline. ASHRAE willprovide an extension o up to 45 days.

    2. A candidate who wishes to reschedule his/her exami-nation appointment, but ails to contact AMP at least twobusiness days prior to the scheduled testing session, willoreit the examination ee and must reschedulethe examination.

    Inclement Weather, Power Failure or EmergencyIn the event o inclement weather or unoreseen emergen-cies on the day o an examination, AMP will determinewhether circumstances warrant the cancellation, and sub-sequent rescheduling, o an examination. The examinationusually will not be rescheduled i the Assessment Centerpersonnel are able to open the Assessment Center. Ipower to an Assessment Center is temporarily interrupt-ed during an administration, your examination will restart

    where you let o and you may continue the examination.

    Candidates may contact AMPs Weather Hotline at 800-380-5416 (24 hours/day) prior to the examination todetermine i AMP has been advised that any AssessmentCenters are closed. Every attempt is made to administerthe examination as scheduled; however, should an examina-tion be canceled at an Assessment Center, all scheduledcandidates will receive notication ollowing the examina-tion regarding rescheduling or reapplication procedures.

    On the Day of Your ExaminationOn the day o your examination appointment, report tothe Assessment Center no later than your scheduled test-ing time. Ater you enter the oce, look or the signs indi-cating AMP Assessment Center check-in. A CANDIDATEWHO ARRIVES MORE THAN 15 MINUTES AFTER THESCHEDULED TESTING TIME WILL NOT BE ADMITTED.To gain admission to the Assessment Center, a candidateneeds to present two orms o identication, one with a

    current photograph. Both forms of identication must becurrent and include the candidates current name and sig-nature. The candidate will also be required to sign a rosteror verication o identity.

    Acceptable orms o identication include a current:1. Drivers license with photograph2. State identication card with photograph3. Passport4. Military identication card with photograph5. Social security card (secondary orm)

    Employment ID cards, student ID cards, and any type o

    temporary identication are NOT acceptable as primaryidentication. Candidates are prohibited rom misrepre-senting their identities or alsiying inormation to obtainadmission to the Assessment Center.

    SecurityASHRAE and AMP maintain examination administrationand security standards that are designed to assure that alcandidates are provided the same opportunity to demonstratetheir abilities. The Assessment Center is continuouslymonitored by audio and video surveillance equipment orsecurity purposes.

    The ollowing security procedures apply during theexamination: Examinations are proprietary. No cameras, notes, tape recorders, Personal Digital

    Assistants (PDAs), pagers, or cellular phones areallowed in the testing room.

    You are encouraged to bring a non-programmablescientic calculator or the OPMP examination. Onlysilent, non-programmable calculators are permitted,but they will not be provided or you.

    No guests, visitors, or family members are allowed inthe testing room or reception areas.

    No personal items, valuables, or weapons are allowedin the Assessment Center. Only keys and wallets maybe taken into the testing room and AMP is not respon-sible or items let in the reception area.

    Examination Restrictions No personal belongings will be allowed in the Assess-

    ment Center. Pencils will be provided during check-in.Use o a cellular phone or other electronic device isstrictly prohibited and will result in dismissal rom theexamination.

    You will be provided with scratch paper to use duringthe examination. You must sign and return the scratchpaper to the supervisor at the completion o testing, oryou will not receive a score report. No documents ornotes o any kind may be removed rom the examinationroom. I you need a second piece o scratch paper, youneed to ask the test proctor or another piece o paperand turn in the one you used beore.

    No questions concerning the content of the examination

    may be asked during the examination. Eating, drinking, or smoking will not be permitted in theAsesssment Center

    You may take a break whenever you wish, but you willnot be allowed additional time to make up or time lostduring breaks.

    MisconductIndividuals who engage in any o the ollowing types oconduct, either in the testing room or during a break, maybe dismissed rom the examination, their scores will notbe reported, and their examination ees will not bereunded. Examples o misconduct are when a candidate:

    creates a disturbance, is abusive, or is otherwiseuncooperative;

    displays and/or uses electronic communications equip-ment such as pagers, cellular phones, or PDAs;

    gives or receives help or is suspected of doing so; attempts to record examination questions or make notes;

    attempts to take the examination for someone else; or is observed with notes, books, or other aids.

    Copyrighted Examination QuestionsAll examination questions are the copyrighted propertyo ASHRAE. It is orbidden under ederal copyright law

    to copy, reproduce, record, distribute or display these exami-nation questions by any means, in whole or in part. Doingso may subject you to severe civil and criminal penalties.

    Practice ExaminationUpon signing in, ater your identication has been con-rmed, you will be directed to a testing carrel. You will beinstructed on-screen to enter your identication number.You will take your photograph which will remain on screenthroughout your examination session. This photograph willalso print on your score report.

    Prior to attempting the examination, you will be giventhe opportunity to practice taking an examination on thecomputer. The time you use or this practice examinationis NOT counted as part o your examination time or score.When you are comortable with the computer testingprocess, you may quit the practice session and begin thetimed examination.

    Timed ExaminationFollowing the practice examination, you will begin thetimed examination. Before beginning, instructions for tak-ing the examination are provided on-screen. The computer

    monitors the time you spend on the examination. Theexamination will terminate i you exceed the time allowed.You may click on the Time box in the lower right-handcorner o the screen or select the Time key to monitoryour time. A digital clock indicates the time remaining oryou to complete the examination. The time eature maybe turned o during the examination. Only one examina-tion question is presented at a time. The question numberappears in the lower right hand corner o the screen.

    Choices o answers to the examination question are iden-tied as A, B, C, or D. You must indicate your choice byeither typing in the letter in the response box in the lowerlet hand o the computer screen or clicking in the optionusing the mouse. To change your answer, enter a dierentoption by pressing the A, B, C, or D key or by clicking onthe option using the mouse. You may change your answeras many times as you wish during the examination time limit.

    To move to the next question, click on the orward arrow(>) in the lower right portion o the screen or select theNEXT key. This action will move you orward through theexamination question by question. I you wish to review

    Scores Cancelled by ASHRAE or AMPASHRAE and AMP are responsible or the validity andintegrity o the scores they report. On occasion, occur-rences such as misconduct by a candidate may cause ascore to be suspect. ASHRAE and AMP reserve the rightto void or withhold examination results i, upon investiga-tion, violation o its regulations is discovered.

    Confidentiality

    Inormation about candidates or testing and their exam-ination results are considered condential. Studies andreports concerning candidates will contain no inormationidentiable with any candidate, unless authorized bythe candidate.

    By participating in the OPMP program, eachperson who earns and maintains this certifca-tion agrees to be listed on ASHRAEs publicwebsite. Only those individuals who are activeOPMP certifcants will be listed on the site.Upon request, ASHRAE will provide a link toyour companys website.

    Duplicate Score ReportCandidates may purchase additional copies o theirresults at a cost o $25 per copy. Requests must besubmitted to ASHRAE, in writing. The request mustinclude the candidates name, identication number,mailing address, telephone number, date o examinationand examination taken. Submit this inormation with therequired ee payable to ASHRAE in the orm o a check,money order or cashiers check. Duplicate score reportswill be mailed within approximately two weeks aterreceipt o the request and ee.

    Candidate ResponsibilitiesEach candidate or ASHRAEs Operations and PerormanceManagement Proessional certication is responsible or:

    Submitting a completed, signed application form andthe application ee.

    Enrolling for the examination. Paying a reschedule or cancellation fee if the candi-

    date chooses to cancel or reschedule an enrollment. Complying with the rules for examination.

    Immediately notifying ASHRAE of any suspectedviolations o the rules or examination.

    Available Resources to Help Candidates

    Prepare for the OPMP ExaminationNeither participating in a preparatory activity nor pur-chasing a publication is a requirement or participatingin the OPMP program or or enrolling to take the OPMPexamination. However, candidates who choose to partici-pate in preparatory activities or to purchase publicationsare responsible or ensuring that the timing o the activityor purchase aligns with the timing o the examinationsession or which the candidate has enrolled.

    Resources available to help prepare or the OPMP exami-nation include, but are not limited to, the ollowing:

    Renewal Requirements for ASHRAE Certification Programs

    Each Certicant is required to renew his/her certication every three years. The renewal process includes submittal o arenewal ee ($125 or members, $195 or non-members) and evidence o earning 45 ASHRAE Continuing Education (ACE)units during each three-year renewal period.*

    The three-year renewal period starts on December 31 o the year in which the Certicant earns the certication. Forexample, a Certicant who earns the certication anytime in 2012 will have a renewal deadline o December 31, 2015.

    Individuals who ail to submit renewal ees and evidence o the required ACEs by the December 31 deadline will be con-sidered as non-renewing, notied accordingly, and advised to cease using the specic certication designation ater theirnames. The names o non-renewing Certicants will be removed rom the list o Certicants on ASHRAEs website.

    To be reinstated, non-renewing Certicants must submit the renewal ee, a reinstatement ee ($60), and evidence o therequired ACEs by December 31 o the year ollowing their active status. Ater that date, non-renewing Certicants mustollow the same process as that or the initial application. Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-casebasis by the Committee.
