Minnesota suffered a tough 4-2 loss on the road against the undefeated Indy Eleven. Indy caught the Loons on the counter attack in the first to take an early lead. The home side got its second goal, five minutes into the second half, once again catching United too far forward. Minnesota answered back five minutes later with a powerful strike from Stefano Pinho. Damion Lowe tied the match with his second goal of the year. Both goals were assisted by Kevin Venegas, breaking the club all-time assist record. Indy they took advantage of set pieces, scoring one off a rebound and another direct goal in stoppage time to secure the win.

United Tries to Remain Perfect at HomeWith a tough loss last weekend for Minnesota, the race for the Spring Championship is very tight. The Loons still have a game in hand on the top two teams and will be looking to leapfrog them this week and reclaim the top spot. They will need to get past a tough Tampa Bay Rowdies squad to get there. The Rowdies have been heartbroken several times this year, coming close to victory only to fall short in the end. Though certainly better than its record indicates, Tampa Bay has only scored six goals this season. If the team can figure out how to utilize its many offensive weapons, it could be a more competitive game than what the numbers suggest.

Kalif Alhassan played for United in 2015.
Ben Speas has played with several members of the Rowdies. He won the 2010 NCAA national championship at Akron with Michael Nanchoff. In 2012, Tom Heinemann joined him with the Columbus Crew. Then in 2014, he was briefly joined on the Crew by Ben Sweat.
Heinemann and United Assistant Coach Ian Fuller were on the Charleston Battery together in 2010, where they won the USL Championship.
Freddy Adu and Jamie Watson both played for Real Salt Lake in 2007. Adu then played with Danny Cruz on two separate occasions. The first was from 2008 to 2009 with the U.S. U20 National Team, and the second was with the Philadelphia Union from 2012 through 2013.
Zac Portillos and Aaron Pitchkolan are both natives of Aurora, Colorado.
Walter Ramirez and Pitchkolan played together during 2012 with the San Antonio Scorpions. He then joined Kristian Nicht on Indy Eleven in 2015. Finally, he was a teammate of Stefano Pinho’s in 2015 with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

ABOUT TAMPA BAY ROWDIESThe Rowdies were the first professional sports franchise in the area and remain one of the most recognizable and well-loved brands in soccer. Originally established in 1975, the team won the NASL Soccer Bowl championship in its inaugural year.
In 2008, a group of investors announced the purchase of rights to a professional soccer franchise and the newly-established team began play in 2010 as FC Tampa Bay. In 2012, the team rebranded as the Tampa Bay Rowdies and won the NASL Soccer Bowl Championship after defeating Minnesota in a shootout.
After a disappointing 2014 season, the Rowdies rebuilt its roster to prepare for 2015. They brought in a new coach and many new players with NASL experience in rapid succession. Midway through the Fall Season, the Rowdies went through another upheaval, with Stuart Campbell taking over the head coach role from Thomas Rongen.
The Rowdies once again brought in some big names for the 2016 campaign, most notably English star Joe Cole.
• Minnesota will be without Justin Davis due to a red card suspension from last match in Indy.
• Minnesota will also be without Steward Ceus, who was called up to the Haitian national team for Copa América Centenario.
• These matches have been fairly high scoring in the past. 72 goals have been scored in this series, more than any other series involving Minnesota.
• Minnesota has earned 40 points all-time against the Rowdies. Tampa Bay has only taken 28 points off of United.
• United has four players with multiple goals this season. Tom Heinemann is the only Rowdies player with two or more goals.
• Tampa Bay has only scored once in the first half this season. The rest of its goals have all come in the final 30 minutes of play.
• Both Rowdies victories this year were 1-0 results.
• These clubs were the first two NASL Champions. Minnesota claimed the inaugural title in 2011, followed by the Rowdies beating Minnesota to win in 2012.
• Only one penalty kick has been scored between the two clubs so far in 2016.
• Minnesota has been perfect at home this season. Not only has it not lost, but it has not conceded a goal at NSC Stadium. The Loons have outscored opponents 6-0 in three home matches.
• The Loons are currently undefeated in 13 home matches. This has only happened once before in club history, when Minnesota didn’t lose for nearly a year at home from October 26th, 2013 through October 18th, 2014.
• Tampa Bay is tied for the most yellow cards in the league with 18.
• United is tied for most red cards in the league with two. The Loons only had one all last season.

The North American Soccer League (NASL) is a professional soccer league with eleven teams in the United States and Canada. It is sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation (U.S. Soccer) as the Division II league in the American league system. Its headquarters are in New York City. Named after the North American league of the 70’s and 80’s, The modern NASL was founded in 2009, and began play in 2011 following a 2010 season that saw NASL and USL teams play in a combined temporary Division II league.
The NASL uses a split-season schedule running from April to early November, with a four-week break in July. The spring and fall champions, along with the two teams with best combined records, meet in a four-team single elimination tournament known as The Championship. The winner of the final claims the Soccer Bowl at the end of the season.
