PREFERRED SBRC Criteria Urgent accommodation pressures at both of the existing secondary schools are addressed and enrolment is reduced to below total site capacity. Students will be evenly distributed between all three (3) secondary schools in Milton, where all facilities are fully utilized above their built capacity, leaving to empty classrooms in a five (5) year period. 1. Optimize the use of existing school facilities Milton is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Ontario with high growth in student population over the next 20 years; as such, portables will continue to be required at all Milton secondary schools. Reduces the overall number of portables required at Bishop P. F. Reding CSS and Jean Vanier CSS with the opening of the new Milton #3 CSS and results in a relatively even distribution of portables over the long-term. 2. Minimize the use of portable classrooms Relatively even distribution of students between Bishop P. F. Reding CSS, Jean Vanier CSS and Milton #3 CSS, and creates three relatively stable secondary school catchments of somewhat similar enrolment following the opening of the future Milton #4 CSS. Next Boundary Review should be as a result of the need for the New Milton #4 CSS. 3. Minimize school boundary adjustments over the long-term Highest number of students that can walk to/from school and lowest number of students that will require student transportation when compared to other options reviewed. 4. Maximize walkers to school and minimize transportation needs Enrolment sufficiently large enough to offer a full breath and choice of secondary school courses Relocating optional ExF and FI programs alleviates accommodation pressure at Bishop P. F. Reding CSS, and increases the number of schools in Milton offering optional programming from one to two. 5. Ensure that school populations are sustainably sized Queen of Heaven elementary school catchment area will continue to be part of a different parish than the school boundary. Secondary schools will be located central to the community they serve, creating a neighbourhood school model that is walkable and accessible. 6. Give due consideration to the concept of neighbourhood and Catholic school communities Reasons for Preferring Option Option A is the most optimal in achieving each criteria while having the least impacts on existing school communities. Moreover, the affected secondary schools will be central to the communities they serve in a walkable and accessible manner. This option is well suited to accommodate the future Milton #4 CSS school as well, being able to hold it for the longest period of time. 87%

PREFERRED

SBRC Criteria

• Urgent accommodation pressures at both of the existing secondary schools are addressed and enrolment is reduced to below total site capacity.

• Students will be evenly distributed between all three (3) secondary schools in Milton, where all facilities are fully utilized above their built capacity, leaving to empty classrooms in a five (5) year period.

1. Optimize the use of existing school facilities

• Milton is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Ontario with high growth in student population over the next 20 years; as such, portables will continue to be required at all Milton secondary schools.

• Reduces the overall number of portables required at Bishop P. F. Reding CSS and Jean Vanier CSS with the opening of the new Milton #3 CSS and results in a relatively even distribution of portables over the long-term.

2. Minimize the use of portable classrooms

• Relatively even distribution of students between Bishop P. F. Reding CSS, Jean Vanier CSS and Milton #3 CSS, and creates three relatively stable secondary school catchments of somewhat similar enrolment following the opening of the future Milton #4 CSS.

• Next Boundary Review should be as a result of the need for the New Milton #4 CSS.

3. Minimize school boundary adjustments over the long-term

• Highest number of students that can walk to/from school and lowest number of students that will require student transportation when compared to other options reviewed.

4. Maximize walkers to school and minimize transportation needs

• Enrolment sufficiently large enough to offer a full breath and choice of secondary school courses

• Relocating optional ExF and FI programs alleviates accommodation pressure at Bishop P. F. Reding CSS, and increases the number of schools in Milton offering optional programming from one to two.

5. Ensure that school populations are sustainably sized

• Queen of Heaven elementary school catchment area will continue to be part of a different parish than the school boundary.

• Secondary schools will be located central to the community they serve, creating a neighbourhood school model that is walkable and accessible.

6. Give due consideration to the concept of neighbourhood and Catholic school communities

Reasons for Preferring OptionOption A is the most optimal in achieving each criteria while having the least impacts on existing school communities. Moreover, the affected secondary schools will be central to the communities they serve in a walkable and accessible manner. This option is well suited to accommodate the future Milton #4 CSS school as well, being able to hold it for the longest period of time.

87%
