Term 4 Week 1 Tuesday 9 October 2012
From the Relieving Principal
Craig Renneberg has been approached and agreed to assist at
Walgett Central School over the next few weeks. I will be
relieving in his position during this time. Mrs Annie Munro will
step into the relieving Deputy Principal’s position. We will be in
regular contact with Mr Renneberg to assure him that the
school is running smoothly under ‘girl power’!
We welcome Mrs Vicki Bedingfield who will be teaching 1K this
term. Ms Scanlon is now in London pursuing her teaching
career. Mrs Bedingfield spent some time in the classroom last
term to meet the students and they were enthusiastically
showing her the ropes yesterday.
We congratulate Miss Wong (2W) who was married during the
holidays. We are now attempting to remember to call Miss
Wong by her married name Mrs Mannering.
Congratulations to Mrs Gorrie and all the staff involved in the
K – 2 Sports Day at the end of last term. Although it was a hot
day the students could be seen participating with enthusiasm
and having fun. It was also pleasing to see so many parents
support the day.
This year continues to roll away at an amazing busy pace with
Term Four loaded with action. PSSA sport commences this
Friday. Please ensure your child has their bus fare $3.50 each
week and sports uniform and is at school on time. Buses will be
ready to leave school at 9.15am.
Our school fete is in three weeks (Friday 26 October) and any
support will be much appreciated.
This is a term of consolidation and assessment in the
classroom with teaching and learning. Semester two reports will
go home towards the end of the term. Regular attendance is
vital to ensure your child finishes their school year with
confidence and success.
Kindystart will commence in Week 4 for three weeks when we
will welcome our new parents and preschoolers to the school. If
you have a child who will be commencing school next year
please enrol now so your child can be involved in this important
orientation program.
At the other end of the school, transition to Year 7 will be under
way shortly for our Year 6 students. Mrs English has been in
constant contact with the high schools to ensure a successful
transition.
We have new students enrolled this week and we welcome
these families to Orana Heights. During the enrolment
interviews all families said they had heard pleasing reports
about our school and were looking forward to being part of the
school community.
Tonight is the P&C meeting at 7pm. Any new members will be
very welcome.
Mrs Munro and I will look forward to holding the fort in Mr
Renneberg’s absence and we are only a phone call away if you
need our support. Judy Aird

This is a program run by the Itinerant Hearing Team of Dubbo
Department of Education and Communities.
The program is aimed at K-3 students and runs over a two
week period with six short sessions presented to students and
staff.
The Hearing Teacher Rachael Mills will instruct and show
students how to keep their nasal passages clear and free of
germs. Rachael uses puppets to assist with her presentation.
The program has run for quite a few years and other Dubbo
schools have accessed it this year.
'Hear Our Heart Bus Project' – Coin Line Orana Heights Public School held a very successful fundraising event for the 'Hear Our Heart Bus Project' on Wednesday, 19th September. The School Representative Council organised a 'Coin Line' with students placing their donated silver and gold coins in lines across the basketball court. The longest individual class line was awarded to 1G with a length of 16.12 metres. When all classes were added together, the coin line measured 165.5 metres which is over one and a half times the length of a football field. A cheque for $901.70 was presented to Rowena Galway, 'Hear Our Heart Bus Project' committee member, by Orana Heights Term 3 School Captains, Daniel Ramirez and Maree Pobje.
