Sixth Grade• Each student is a member of a 4-teacher

team, each teaching three subject areas. • All students begin the day receiving two

periods of Language Arts instruction followed by three core academic classes.

• The core academic classes are Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies.

• All sixth grade students take the same core academic courses with the exception of mathematics.

• In addition, each student participates in the Creative Arts Program, Health/Phys. Ed. Program and optional performance music classes. (Band, Chorus, Orchestra)

We have high expectations for our students and will hold them to a high standard of behavior and

academics.

• Be prepared- have everything you need for class.

• Be on time – be ready for class by time the bell rings. • Be respectful – to your classmates and to adults.

• Be responsible - for your actions, for your assignments, and for your success.

• Students are required- to make up any missed assignments due to absences.

Spelling• The students spelling list will be

generated from their reading vocabulary words.

• Spelling will be tested in conjunction with the vocabulary test at the end of each story.

Social Studies

The Central Dauphin 6th grade curriculum will allow students to learn Social Studies utilizing the five strands. The five strands are geography, cultures, history, government and economics. These strands will be the focus while studying the different countries of the world.

SCIENCE

The FOSS Science series will discuss and enrich the students in the area of SCIENTIFIC METHOD, MODELS and DESIGNS, GRAVITY and MOTION, LEVERS and PULLEYS, ECOLOGY, and DIVERSITY OF LIFE. Each unit is designed to allow students to maximize practice and understanding through hands-on learning.
