ORDER OF AHEPA COWBOY CHAPTER #211 NEWSLETTER AHEPA MISSION: To promote the ancient Hellenic ideals of education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, integrity and family and individual excellence through community service and volunteerism. Volume VIII Winter 2015 COWBOY Chapter 211 Annual Scholarship Awards BBQ Cowboy Chapter 211 held their annual Scholarship Awards BBQ event at Holy Apostles Orthodox Christian Church in Cheyenne. AHEPA Family dignitaries attending were Supreme Governor Tim Joannides, AHEPA Rocky Mountain Governor Troy Cutrubus and Rocky Mountain DOP Governor Demi Cross. There were approximately 130 members and guests attending, including eight of the eleven 2015 Scholarship winners who received a total of $12,100 in scholarships from Cowboy Chapter 211. COWBOY Chapter’s 2015 Charitable Donations Cowboy Chapter, following the AHEPA Mission Statement of promoting education, philanthropy and civic responsibilty has contributed $4,500 to the following National and local charities: • St. Nicholas Shrine Foundation • The Boys and Girls Club of Cheyenne • AHEPA Brothers fund and along with the Daughters of Penelope sisters volunteer to feed the homeless at the Comea Shelter of Cheyenne. On the average, dinner is served to 80 people three times a year. • Festivals/Fundraisers: the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Bayard/Bridgeport, Nebraska Festival, the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church Festival in Cheyenne and the Holy Apostles Orthodox Christian Church’s Western Boots and Ancient Roots fundraiser in Cheyenne. • Toys for Tots in Cheyenne • Support the GOYA and Youth Groups involved with the three local Orthodox Churches. In addition, Cowboy Chapter is conducting an additional fundraising raffle to support The Boys and Girls Club of Cheyenne and The Comea Shelter. We are Raffling a new Arctic Cat 500 ATV EFI. The drawing will be held February 16, 2016 and you need not be present to win. Raffle tickets are $10 each. For more information, please contact George Mores at (307)632-1309. COWBOY Chapter 211 Annual Scholarship Awards BBQ

8th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament The 8th Annual AHEPA Cowboy Chapter 211 Scholarship Golf Tournament was held Friday, June 26, 2015. This year’s Tournament was the most successful tournament to date with more players and hole sponsors which allowed the Tournament to net $21,032 after all expenses were paid. Up to seventy percent of the net amount will be available for the 2016 Scholarship awards. The Scholarship Golf Tournament provides scholarships, up to four years, for undergraduate college students who are children of Cowboy Chapter 211 and the Daughters of Penelope Olympus Chapter 6. These funds also help underwrite the National AHEPA Journey to Greece program for local students. The local Daughters of Penelope, Olympus Chapter 6 is compensated for helping with the Scholarship Golf Tournament using these funds for their philanthropic activities in the local community.

Supreme Vice President Visits Cheyenne and Rocky Mountain District 17 AHEPA Supreme Vice President Andrew C. Zachariades visited Cowboy Chapter #211 at an informal get together held at the home of Tim and Kathy Joannides. The event was attended by AHEPA members from Cowboy Chapter 211, Daughters of Penelope members from Olympus Chapter 6 and Daughters representing Chapter 10 from Denver, Colorado. Brother Tim Joannides presented Supreme Vice President Zachariades an official Stetson cowboy hat and cowboy belt and buckle as a token of his visit. Supreme Vice President then visited Denver, Colorado and attended Chapter 145’s Annual Golf Tournament.

2015 AHEPA Family Christmas Party

The 2015 Christmas Party was held December 6, 2015 at the home of George and Fay Zaharas. AHEPA Family members and guests attended the party organized by the Daughters of Penelope Olympus Chapter 6. There

were hors d’oeuvres and desserts prepared by the Daughters and cocktails served by the Brothers. The party ended with a white elephant gift exchange enjoyed by all. The Daughters and AHEPAN’s would like to thank George and Fay Zaharas for opening up their beautiful home for this fun event.
