ORDER OF SERVICE
For your convenience, we have posted this outline of today’s worship. The entire worship experience is
subject to the Holy Spirit. Thank you for worshipping with us!
*The Praise & Worship
**The Doxology
**The Salutation Pastor: Give honor to God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Congregation: And to all the children of our Father, now and forever. Amen.
**The General Confession This is an opportunity for us to confess that we have fallen short before the Lord. Because of God’s tender mercies, He is faithful and just to forgive us when we confess our sins.
Pastor & Congregation: Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men, we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, which we from time to time most grievously have committed by thought, word, and deed against Your divine Majesty, provoking most justly Your wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; the remembrance of them is grievous unto us. Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father for Your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake; forgive us all that is past, and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please You in the newness of life, to the honor and glory of Your name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
*The Hymn of Praise
**The Morning Prayer
*The Ministry of Music
**The Scripture Reading………………………...……...............……..............................................................................John 15:1-‐8
**The Preface to the Decalogue………………………………………………………………………………………………Hymn #69 This is our acknowledgement that our Creator deserves the praise from each of us, and we therefore prepare to acknowledge His law.
From all that dwell below the skies let the Creator’s praise arise; Let the Redeemer’s name be sung. Through every land, by every tongue.
**The Decalogue On every First Sunday, we stand together to remind ourselves of God’s expectations of each of us. As He gave them to Moses, we affirm that God expects the same of each of us today.
Pastor: And God spake all these words, saying I am the Lord, Thy God who brought thee out of the Land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shall have no other gods before me.
Congregation: Lord have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law.
Pastor: You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Congregation: Lord have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law.
Pastor: You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
Congregation: Lord have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law.
Pastor: Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son, or your daughter, your manservant, or your maidservant, or your cattle, or the sojourner who is within your gates; for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day, therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
Congregation: Lord have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law.
Hymn: My soul, be on thy guard; Ten thousand foes arise; and hosts of sins are pressing hard to draw you from the skies.
Pastor: Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord our God gives you.
Congregation: Lord have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law.
Pastor: You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal.
Congregation: Lord have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law.
Pastor: You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor’s.
Congregation: Lord have mercy upon us, and write these laws upon our hearts.
Hymn: Nearer, my God to Thee, Nearer to Thee! E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me; Still all my song shall be, Nearer, my God to Thee; Nearer my God to Thee, Nearer to Thee!
Pastor: Hear what Christ our Savior saith: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul and with all thy mind. This is the first and Great Commandment, and the second is like unto it. Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Gloria Patri: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.
*The Ministry of Benevolence & Greetings Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done. –Prov. 19:17
*The Ministry of Music
**The Altar Call
*The Sermonic Selection
*The Sermon……………………………………………………………………..……………….Pastor Conitras M. Houston Moore
**The Invitation to Christian Discipleship This is your response to the Word of God. If you have never accepted Christ as your Savior, we would like to offer Christ to you. If you are in need of a church home, we would love to be your family. If the Word of God pierced your heart, we would be glad to pray with you.
*The Ministry of Stewardship Every good and perfect gift comes from the Lord—out of obedience and faith in God’s word, we give back 10% of what God has given us.
**The Service of Holy Communion As we participate in Holy Communion, we do not enter or exit the sanctuary. As we approach the altar, we do so with nothing in
our hands, nothing in our mouths, and no ill will in our hearts.
The Celebrant Consecration All glory, power, and honor to you, Almighty God, Holy Father, Creator of Heaven and earth, Who did make us in Your own image. And when we fell into sin, You of Your tender mercy did give Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ, to take our nature upon Him, and to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption: Who made there, by His oblation of Himself once offered, a full and perfect sacrifice for the whole world: And instituted and commanded us to continue this perpetual memorial of His precious death until His Coming again. For in the night in which He was betrayed, He took bread: and when He had given thanks to You, He broke it, and gave it to His disciples, and said “Take, eat: This is My body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also, after supper, He took the cup: and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and said, “Drink this, all of you; for this is My blood of the New Covenant, which is poured out for you and many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” Therefore, with this bread and cup we remember the life our Lord offered for us. And, believing the witness of His resurrection, we await His coming in power to share with us the great and promised feast. Gracious God, You are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness. Bless and sanctify these gifts with Your Holy Spirit and bless us to Your service that we may faithfully receive in unity and peace the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Bidding Pastor: You that truly and earnestly repent of your sins and are in love and charity with your neighbors, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking hereafter in His Holy ways; Draw near with faith to receive the Holy Sacrament, and make your humble confession to Almighty God, in the presence of His church, devoutly kneeling.
The Elements Shared
The Prayer of Thanksgiving God of grace, we give you praise and thanks for this Holy Communion of the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, the pledge of our redemption; and we pray that it may bring us forgiveness of our sins, strength in our weakness, and everlasting salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
