About VIT University VIT University, one of the premier institutes in India, established in 1984. VIT is the first educational institution in India to get ISO 9002 certified by the DNV of The Netherlands and accreditation from IEE (UK). Further it has also been accredited by NBA (AICTE) and NAAC (UGC). The university offers 19 Undergraduate, 34 Post graduate, 2 Integrated and 4 Research programs in 10 schools. University is also rising ahead in the number of publications along with-index of 57. Research centers are also part of the schools, encouraging inter departmental collaboration and opportunity for students to participate in exciting research projects in Automotive research, Crystal research, Nanotechnology, Nano-biotechnology, Bio-separation Technology and Biomaterials. School of Bio Sciences and Technology (SBST) SBST offers B. Tech., M. Tech., M. Sc., and Ph. D. programs in Biotechnology and many other allied areas. SBST has adequate infrastructure and skilled faculty members for carrying out teaching, research and developmental activities in different areas of Biotechnology. Major areas of research include Molecular Genetics, Clinical Genetics, Plant Biotechnology, Microbiology and Microbial Technology, Cancer Biology, Bioinformatics, Bioprocess Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Environmental Biotechnology and Immuno-biotechnology. The school has received funded projects worth of more than 10 crores from various funding agencies DBT, DRDO, and DST as well as from core industries. The major facilities include RT-PCR, ELISA, High speed Cooling Centrifuge, HPLC, Inverted microscope, Nano drop circular dichroism, Scanning electron microscope, fluorescence microscope, cell culture and animal house. Department of Biomedical Sciences Two year M.Sc. Biomedical Genetics program equips students to understand the genetic basis of diseases and to develop the clinical and laboratory skills. Students willing to opt M.Sc. Biomedical Genetics with Specialization in Genetic Counselling has a unique course work which includes clinical rotations in hospitals for 12 weeks . Two year M.Sc. Applied Microbiology Program offers in depth knowledge in functioning of Microorganisms and application in day to day life About DNA Day April 25th, 1953 marked the discovery of DNA, which was one of the most important landmarks that opened new dimensions of understanding the basis of all lifeforms. In 1953, the outstanding work of James Watson, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, Rosalind Franklin and colleagues forever etched this milestone in the path of novel and innovative explorations. To commemorate the momentous occasion of World DNA Day the Department of Biomedical Sciences, VIT University Vellore is organizing 4th DNA Day 2017, on the 4th and 5th March 2017 (Saturday – Sunday). Our aim is to bring together the brightest young minds and to further explore the world of science and evolve into visionaries.
