DIPLOMA OF L IBRARY AND INFORMATION SERVICES

Total number of units = 19

7 core units plus

12 elective units of which:

9 units must be from Group A and/or Group B elective units

below

3 units may be from Group A, B and/or C and/or from a

Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level qualification

in any endorsed Training Package or accredited course.

COURSE ORGANISATION

Eight “super units”

Attend approximately 3 weekends per super unit

Complete 4 units per semester

Finish in two years

Less repetition in the course

Access to teacher during study period

You need to be careful of census date if you

withdraw as you will lose money for all 3 units.

Assignments will be larger

RPL(RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING)

Must address Critical aspects for assessment

and evidence required to demonstrate

competency in this unit

You must provide satisfactory evidence that

you can do these things .

You cannot just send a letter from your

supervisor saying you work in a library

CREDIT TRANSFER

If you already have 3 units Certificate 4 or higher,

you may use these as electives as long as theya re

current.

All returning students have been given Credit

Transfer to the new course as much as possible

There is no charge for credit transfers.

WITHDRAWAL

Withdraw by the census date or no money return

for all 3 units

Advise teacher as soon as possible and sign form

or money will not be returned

If all work is not submitted you will be withdrawn

not given a not competent which means no

resubmission

RESUBMISSION

All students are entitled to ONE resubmission for

an assignment

All assignments must be deemed competent for a

student to be graded competant

IF UNITS ARE WITHDRAWN

If you withdraw and have attended classes, logged

into Moodle or participated, hours will be accredited

to the University.

You will only get a portion of your money back

If through withdrawals and CN’s you are

subsidised as a student for more than 1100 hours

any further study will be at full fee.

CN’s are counted as full hours

BACHELOR OF ARTS

Negotiations are still in place to combine the Diploma with a

Bachelor of Arts

Diploma will become the first year of a Bachelor of Arts

Will include to Bachelor of Arts Units

HECS will be available

Will probably allow enrolments through TAFE as well

You can drop out with a Diploma or continue with Bachelor of

ARTS.

Don’t fall into Depression

If you do not understand ASK (chances are other people don’t

understand either)

Make sure you have family and work support.

Access to technology ( before the kids)

Let someone else cook on Saturdays and Sundays

Quiet time to study

Find a study buddy who can share the pain

Give yourself time

Plan your work schedule so that you can complete

assignments on time

Read requirements of the assignment carefully and

make sure you understand what is needed

If you will be late ask.

Keep copies of work in two palces

COMPUTER UP TO DATE

It is your responsibility to

Use compatible software when submitting assignments

Keep your computers free from virus’s

Keep your software up to date ( Java Etcetera)

Backup your work

Store your work so that children, cats, dogs, husbands,

friends, partners work IT etcetera, cannot destroy it,

mutilate it, change it or deface it

PASSWORDS

It is your responsibility to make sure all passwords

work BEFORE class.

Log into Moodle a week before class starts

Go over to the library and check passwords and

access

Wireless does not work in classroom. If you use

your own laptop make sure you have your own

Internet access

There is lots of material about plagiarism

Plagiarism can be intentional or unintentional

ALWAYS cite where you got information ( not

just quotes or paraphrasing)

Always acknowledge other people’s

contribution
