Student Handbook• Provides a guideline to the

school’s rules, regulations and policies

• The school board policy is the official wording on all matters.

Dignity and Respect• Respect the rights of:

– Other students– Teachers – All other staff

• While in school, the teacher assumes the role of the parent (loco parentis)

• Show dignity and respect for self.

ATTENDANCE

• Students are expected to be in school every day• Exceptions:

Legitimate illness supported by a parent or physician note

Pre-approved educational trips and college visits

Tardy or early dismissal for legitimate medical or legal appointments

A tardy is unexcused unless you produce a doctor’s note

Attendance (continued)• Do not assume the last day of school on the

calendar is definite. – This date could change. – Trips taken as this time WILL NOT BE

excused. – Missed final exams will receive a 0% grade.

3 Day RuleAbsences will be considered

office.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES

• If your absence is unlawful or unexcused you do NOT have the right to make up or turn in work.

• You will not get credit for projects due.

• An unexcused tardy is an unlawful absence!

• After 3 days 3 days without an excuse, the absence will remain unexcused even with a Doctor’s Note.

Tardy to School

• Report directly to the office to sign in. You will need a pass to go to class.

Leaving the School

Not permitted to leave school, during school hours, without the permission

of the principal’s office

•Loss of driving privileges for driver

and all riders.

•1st offense – 30 day loss of privileges

Student’s Responsibilities

• Be aware of rules and regulations and conduct yourself in accordance with them

• Volunteer information relating to the health, safety and welfare of the school, community and protection of school property

• Attend school daily, except when excused

• Make all arrangements for making up work when excused

• Be on time for all classes and activities

• Express your ideas and opinions in a respectful manner so as not to offend or slander other persons

Dress Code•Sleeveless clothing is not permitted.

•Transparent, low cut (v-neck or scoop neck) and bare midriff or rear torso clothing is prohibited

•No undergarments are to be exposed.

•No torn/ripped clothing

• Skirts, shorts and dresses must be no shorter than mid thigh (tip of finger when arm extended down along leg)

• Clothing must be proper fitting and not impede movement– No excessive heels– No low rise pants– Clothing may no be too tight

• No outerwear (exterior coats) without express permission of the office.

• Chains and other excessive jewelry may not be worn – Items that may damage furniture or injure others– Items that may injure anyone– Decision of the school administration is final

• No head coverings. (Hats, bandanas, sweatbands, dew rags and hoods are not to be worn indoors.)

• Items may be confiscated by any staff member.

• No pajamas or sleepwear.

Decision of the school administration is final.

Footwear

Shoes are to be worn at all times on school grounds and in the building.

• Flip flops must be leather as per board policy.

PDA’sPublic Display of Affection

Public displays of affection are not appropriate for the school setting.

Students need to exhibit dignity and respect for themselves and other students.

Public kissing will result in a minimum of one PM detention being issued.

Food and Drink

Students are not to have food and drink in hallways, classrooms or other areas of the school outside the cafeteria !

Personal Possessions• Prohibited from the time you enter the school until dismissal time

– Radios/I-PODS/MP 3& CD Players– Cellular/Digital Phones– Pagers– Lap Tops (unless required for a class)

• Discouraged– Valuables and large sums of money– Toys, games, gag items– Blankets, pillows, etc.

Personal Possessions

• Policy requires electronics to be in your locker during the school day.

• Consequences:– Item confiscated until a parent picks it up– Repeat offenses subject to detention/suspension

Weapons and Dangerous Instruments - PROHIBITED

Controlled Substances• Drugs, look alike drugs and drug paraphernalia are prohibited.

• Lawful medications must be taken to nurse in the original container with the prescription and authorization from parent.

HAZING

School Board Policy 245

Prohibits any activity that intentionally or recklessly endangers the mental or physical health or safety of another student for purposes of initiation, membership or affiliation with any organization.

Student Driving

Student Drivers• Only students with valid permits may park

anywhere on the Susquenita School District Campus.

• Vehicles are subject to search by the school administration.

• Parking on campus is a privilege which may be suspended or revoked for cause.– Tardies to school– Driving violations– Leaving Campus without permission

• Drivers may be assessed fines for violations in addition to disciplinary action.

PARKING LOTUpon arrival

No one will be permitted to leave schoolto return to your vehicle.

Detention

• Detention will be held from 2:50 - 5:15 this year due to a change in bus transportation.

• Detention is held every Tuesday and Thursday in Room 405 (Mrs. Garver.)

• If you cut a detention or arrive late, further detentions will be added. Additionally, ISS or OSS may be issued.

Report when assigned.Have all assignments completed.
