2016 – Peer review specialists through ORISE supported DOE’s Office of Science in determining the allocation of 5.78 billion processor hours at Oak Ridge and Argonne National Laboratories through its Innovative and Novel Computational Impact on Theory and Experiment (INCITE) Program. This program grants members of the scientific community access to some of the world’s fastest supercomputers for large-scale research projects.

2016 – REAC/TS celebrated its 40th anniversary. During this time, its global calls for assistance have included major radiation incidents such as Three Mile Island (1979), Chernobyl (1986) and Fukushima (2011). Annually, REAC/TS staff reaches nearly 6,000 medical professionals and emergency management personnel around the world through courses, meetings, workshops and conferences featuring highly specialized radiation emergency medicine education.

2016 – In a competitive bid, DOE selected ORAU to continue to manage ORISE with a new, up-to-10-year contract. Dr. William J. (Jim) Vosburg was named director of ORISE.

2016 – Installation of a new multi-channel automated pipette system at the ORISE Beryllium Testing Laboratory improved efficiency by reducing the manual part of processing beryllium lymphocyte proliferation tests. The laboratory performs nearly 5,000 such tests each year.

2016 – ORISE placed 9,899 participants into workforce development programs, many of which included research experiences and internships at national laboratories.

The events along this timeline demonstrate how DOE responded to and ORISE supported key national priorities. Accomplishments addressed needs in or strengthened opportunities for:

Global Leadershipin Science

National andNuclear Security

Worker andPublic Health

Energy and Environmental Stewardship

Knowledge and Workforce Development

ORAU awarded another five-year contract from DOE to manage ORISE

REAC/TS celebrated its 40th anniversary

2016 – ORISE Radiological and Environmental Analytical Laboratory received ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation for quality and accuracy of laboratory operations.

2016 2016

2016 – ORISE managed a 10-week inaugural program for the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI), which provided internships for exceptional undergraduate and graduate students. The interns were selected from applicants representing 116 colleges and universities.

2016 – ORAU, which manages ORISE, received the ISO 9001:2015 registration, the latest international standard from the International Organization for Standardization for validating quality management systems.
