As hospitality moves towards reopening, the emphasis is on workforce planning. How to get our people back into work, safely and with the confidence to deliver a great experience for consumers.

We asked Hayley Connor, Head of People and Learning at Brewhouse and Kitchen, Sarah Hammond, Head of People at the Hush Collection, and James Grist, Head of Talent for D&D London what workforce planning advice they would give hospitality businesses as they move towards reopening their doors.

Training is key. And strong successful

openings will hinge on the quality of the training you give your people. New hygiene and distancing rules will be a challenge at first but with the right training this should soon become second nature.

Focus on the soft skills. Empathy,

understanding and emotional intelligence will all play a vital part during reopening. Customers will need reassurance from front of house teams to rebuild confidence in the sector.

Communicate honestly and openly with your teams. Take time to explain how you will be operating, what is going to be different, and how every contribution is vital in making reopening a success.

Be agile. What looks great on paper might

not work well once the public are back through your doors. Be prepared to make quick changes and include your team in every part of the discussion, action plan and revised way of working.

Be authentic. Consumers are going to

have to adjust to new ways of socialising, and they will need guidance and support through these changes. The way your teams and the brand communicate with consumers is key to creating an enjoyable experience for all.
