The Plot

The story is told by Snowman (after the apocalypse), and his life as Jimmy (before the apocalypse)

Jimmy lives in the “Compounds” a safe, scientific based community. There is also the Pleeblands where those who are less fortunate live.

Scientists are splicing many types of animals, most commonly mentioned is the Pigoon, Rakunk, Bob Kitten, Snat and Wolvog.

Jimmy’s best (and only) friend is Crake, they discover Oryx as a child porn star when in their early teens. Jimmy falls in love with her soft eyes.

The Plot Continued

Jimmy and Crake go their separate ways after high school. Crake as a bio engineer, Jimmy as a advertisement designer.

Crake believes the human race is a failure and creates a new race which are named Crakers. These people are better adapted to our world in that they can heal themselves and they aren’t supposed to believe in a god, higher rulings, only eat herbs/plants and females reproduce once every 4 years.

Crake engineers a virus which wipes out everyone on the planet, excluding Jimmy. This allows his Crakers to take over.

The Big Question

The study of dystopias, post apocalyptic literature and totalitarian societies are relevant today, because it is a good way of learning about real life situations that people have been in and are still in today.
