In March, a giant marketing banner, easily visible fromthe San Bernardino Freeway (Interstate 10) was in-stalled on a light pole in the parking lot of KelloggHouse Pomona.

We’ve heard countless of comments from the commu-nity stating that they’ve driven over Kellogg Hill andalways wondered who lived in that grand mansion.

Our goal was to create awareness of Kellogg WestHotel and Conference Center and Kellogg HousePomona, and to promote upcoming events or specials.

Soon after installation, the area was buffeted by strongwinds, but the banners held strong. Because they sur-vived this test, in the future, we may even be able to in-crease the size of future banners.

The banners were designed in two parts. The largerbottom half will be the permanent half of the sign; thetop (smaller) half can be changed quickly and with lessinvestment, to promote different events.

Within one week of installing the banners, we receivedour first inquiry for a wedding at Kellogg HousePomona. Not bad ... A $600 investment; comparableto the price of one magazine ad!

Name: Arthur J. Lee

Title: Student Manager

Job Description:My job requires me to work closely with both my co-workers andsupervisors, acting like a liaison between both. Other than that, Ido all the other work requirements for being a C-store employee, everything from handling the registers to restocking the store.

I have a talent for: Listening to people, attention to details, andmaking seemingly impossible schedules work for everyone.

My biggest challenge is: Nothing is too much of a challenge, thanks to the people I work with.

What I like most about my job:My co-workers; they make everyday fun and my life easier, I can’timagine working with a better group of people.

Favorite childhood memory: The day I got introduced to my bestfriend Cindy, I was in high school at the time and I had just gottenback from early swim practice. Half awake at the time, my sisterintroduced her to me and as she said hi, all I could muster out ofmy throat was a grunt! We’ve been friends ever since; we stilllaugh about it till this day.

My biggest achievement: The biggest achievement I have undermy belt up to date is helping someone out of a car accident whenno one else would do anything about it. No medals, but I was gladthat I reacted the way I did rather than freeze in shock.

Community involvement: I used to help out the community withfood drives, volunteer work at the convalescent home, and feedingthe homeless. Right now I’m planning to work with my gym inhelping out my local community withthings like park clean up.

Career goal: My ultimate goalis to become a high schoolteacher and open up my ownmartial art dojo and tutoringcenters.

Favorite food on campus: TheMexican Food Bar at Los Oliv-ios, the food is really good andyou can get almost anythingMexican cuisine related there!

Length of employment:I’ve have been working forLos Olivios for roughly 4 yearsnow and it has been an educa-tional experience.

Length of commute: Usually25 to 35 minutes every day. No one would ever guess: Ican’t sing even if my life depended on it, but that really doesn’tstop me from trying.

On weekends, I love to: Spend time with my friends, read, work-out, sleep, and cook for myself.

If I could change one thing: I would love to have this economic cri-sis fixed, other than that there isn’t anything I would wantchanged in my life at all.

In five I years I will: Most likely be in a foreign country pursuingmy desire to see the world so I can better teach my students about it.

The University Village ended the Winter Quarter strong. We welcomed Yasmine Rodriguez to our Village staff, and she is now operating as our Mail Clerk. This addition has been really convenient for our students, who arenow able to pick up packages after office hours directly through Yasmine. Thanks to Operations and ResEd de-partments, Winter Check-Out and Spring Check-In went very smoothly and brought an increase in occupancy!Keeping up with regular maintenance, our Facilities team is prepping for the upcoming Summer months whenwe will be pursuing Preventative Maintenance (PMs) projects.

FOUNDATION SHOWCASES CAMPUS SERVICES ANDAFFILIATE CARD BENEFITS FOR RED CROSS EMPLOYEES

Foundation Real Estate and Foundation Marketing have been working diligently topromote the Affiliate Card benefits and campus services to American Red Cross (ARC)employees.

During the first week of March, representatives of various Foundation units were onhand at Geneva Cafe to answer ARC employee questions about campus and the Affil-iate Card, which entitles them to many of the same benefits and services afforded tocampus faculty and staff.

Many ARC employees were surprised to learn that by patronizing Foundation units, the profits would go back to the university to support programs and services for stu-dents. They like the fact that they could make a difference in the lives of students.

As a follow up, on March 30th, several representatives from ARC accompanied repre-sentatives from Marketing, Administration and Real Estate on a campus tour wherethey could see with their own eyes and experience what we have to offer in catering, lodging, conferencing and more! Most had no idea that Kellogg House even existedor was available for corporate meetings and weddings! Some were surprised we hada hotel on campus and it was so convenient to their location. Results were immediateas one representative stated they were planning a two week meeting with hundredsof attendees and were very interested in catering. Others stated that they look forwardto utilizing our meeting rooms and other amenities on campus.

TAX SAVING TIPS FOR PROCRASTINATING FILERS With just a few weeks left to go, millions of taxpayers are scrambling to meet the April tax deadline. If you're among them, you're not alone. An estimated 27 percent of taxpayers wait until the last twoweeks to file their return.

This year, there's some good news for all the procrastinators out there, an extra three days to file yourfederal taxes. The federal tax deadline is Monday, April 18 in-stead of April 15. Double check with your state as not all statetax deadlines are the same.

For those who are waiting until the last minute, there's still timeto reduce your 2010 tax bill. Here are a few things to remember:

•Go online. Taxpayers can go online to prepare and e-file taxesup to the last minute. Online tax preparation is fast, easy and con-venient (my company, Intuit, sells one such online product, Tur-boTax)

•E-file your return. You avoid long lines at the post office andwith direct deposit, get your refund back in as little as eight days.

•Contribute to your IRA. Even procrastinators can save moneyon their taxes. Taxpayers have until the April 18 deadline to con-tribute to an IRA and get a deduction on this year's return.

•Remember charitable contributions. Cash and in-kind donationsmade in 2010 are deductible for itemizers. Even mileage to andfrom volunteering is deductible.

•Take advantage of higher education tax breaks. Tax credits like The American Opportunity Creditand The Lifetime Learning Credit are available if you or your children were in college in 2010 - don'tmiss the potential tax savings available to you.

•Don't just take the standard deduction if you think you're running out of time. It may be worth moreto itemize. Software programs like TurboTax can compare both and help you decide which is best foryou.

•Need more time? Taxpayers can get an extra six months to file (until Oct. 17, 2011). But remember,an extension to file, is not an extension to pay your tax bill. Individuals still need to send the IRS apayment for taxes owed, within 90 percent accuracy, to avoid late penalties.

•What if you can't pay? You're not alone. Taxpayers who can't pay the full amount they owe can askfor a streamlined installment plan. You may qualify for a streamlined plan as long as you don't owemore than25,000, and you must be able to pay your tax bill off within five years. See here.

These simple tips can provide even the most procrastinating taxpayer with real savings on their 2010tax bill. Despite the temptation to put off taxes until the very last minute, the clock is ticking so it'stime to get going. Spending a few minutes to take advantage of any of these tips can help you get bigsavings on your tax return.
