Unfortunately the same goes for the church. It's so easy to get hung up on the external things and the signs of inward growth and change that we forget what we're really about. For example, growing up in my house, a right of passage for every "man" was killing his first deer! My father owned his own sporng goods store, loved to hunt and fish and oſten took me along with him. My inclusion into the Marn family "man club" seemed but a mere formality. Except...I didn't like to hunt. For years I thought that I was somehow less of a man, not because any- one had said so, but because I fell into the trap of thinking I had to look and act like everyone else. We can do the same thing in the church at mes. The Apostle Paul is quite clear in chapter 12 of Romans that our good works are a response to God's grace at work in our lives. That's something we all share in common, but the ways we go about this, or how we show our love for others, must be true to who we are as individuals. In other words, our love must be sincere! So join us today as we conclude our series on Romans and learn how and why our faith enacted will necessarily be unique to who we are. Too often the world tries to tell us who we are or who we should be. Unfortunately the same goes for the church. It's so easy to get hung up on the external things and the signs of inward growth and change that we forget what we're really about. For example, growing up in my house, a right of passage for every "man" was killing his first deer! My father owned his own sporting goods store, loved to hunt and fish and often took me along with him. My inclusion into the Martin family "man club" seemed but a mere formality. Except...I didn't like to hunt. For years I thought that I was somehow less of a man, not because any-one had said so, but because I fell into the trap of thinking I had to look and act like everyone else. We can do the same thing in the church at times.

What We Believe

Week of June 28 2 Sam. 1:1-27 Psalm 130

2 Cor. 8:7-15 Mark 5:21-43

Lectionary Readings

...the living core of the Christian faith is revealed in scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason.

...the one God we worship exists fundamentally within a community of the three per-sons of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

…God’s son, Jesus, came to live among us as fully divine and fully human. His life, death, and resurrection points to and fulfills the good news of the freedom from sin and death, which we proclaim.

...we share one mission with Christians throughout time, to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

...it is into community (koinonia) that we have been called to coexist and through this community that we are able to truly manifest the body of Christ.

…wherever you are on your journey, we are here for one another! “In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity.”

~Rupertus Meldenius (1627)

A Note from the Nurse

They’re baaaak! Black flies, mosquitos, no see-ums (to name a few) are here. There is so much info on insect bites that I could fill the bulletin, so I’m just going to briefly talk about treating your bites. A few prevention ideas Don’t leave standing pools of water around. They can become breeding grounds for these monsters that are most active at dawn and dusk. Protect yourself during these periods. Long sleeve shirts & pants, wear a hat too. Some plants repel insects. Yarrow is one. Use insect repellants Read the instructions carefully and follow the recommendations. Try and find a safe one for you and your family. If you do get bit Prevent the bites from getting infected, clean them! Soap and water is always a good choice! There are numerous remedies for the pain and itching also.

Benadryl sticks, sprays, lotion and oral tablets. Calamine lotion Home treatments: honey- has anti-bacterial properties, aloe plant or lo-

tion, alcohol, Preparation H; aspirin or baking soda paste; mouthwash and my favorite, witch hazel.

The list goes on and on. You probably have your own favorites too. Most important, if you are being bit, be sure and check your children and your pets as well. They are also targets! If any bites appear infected see your doctor and if you’d like more info, get on your computer. There are tons of articles there.

Have a fun and hopefully bug free summer, Judy
