Who is Heart of a Child?

The organization has been established in 1996 by a group of volunteers from Galati. They wanted to help children in need.

Our mission is to

increase the quality of children’s lives.

What do we want for children?

Better life conditions.

To have their right to education respected.

To be cared for in a family, not in an

institution.

To develop the potential of children.

To have their right to grow up and dream

respected.

The first activity in 1996 – a rented apartment for 4 street children.

The first project was financed in 1997 – for

25 children from a local hospital.

We had over 15.000 children in our programs since the beginning.

Why is it necessary?

• the need for recuperation services for children with

disabilities

• their need for social and educational integration

• support for families

• Family-type houses for 12 young adults

• Occupational therapy and life –skills

• Art and handmade workshop

Why is our work important?

In the 90’s in Romania there were approximately 6,5 million children, out of which 70,000 were in

institutions

In 2014 in Romania there are approximately 3,5 million children, out of which 60.000 do not live in their own

family.

1 out of 5 children leaves school before the Xth grade.
