International Yoga Day: International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21 June 2016. Prior to the celebration, the sensitization of the Art of Yoga was carried out at four locations simultaneously on Saturdays & Sundays for three weeks, at Lodhi garden, Nehru Park, Talkatora Garden & Central park. Sitaji lived life king-size! She lived it on her own terms, as she fought chronic disease on her own terms. She kept busy all hours of the day; as her many 5am e-mails testify! She travelled widely, undertaking journeys that would tire a lesser person. She drove her little red car like a race driver, and she loved all aspects of her life. Old age was for others - she was indestructible! Cancer Sahyog, the Emotional Support wing of the Indian Cancer Society was her karma bhoomi - ICS volunteers were her second family, and she was passionate about reducing suffer- ing & financial distress of the poor patient. She put her money where her mouth is, donating a small corpus to be used for the purpose. Her Awareness Talks on Diet in the waiting area of Hospitals were a star turn - helping many families look after their loved ones better. She was tireless in her efforts to do her best for the Sahyog. She served as President of the group of Survivors twice in the space of 5 years - a crown of thorns that she wore with pride! She truly led from the front. It is hard to remember that she had her life as a Navy wife in her total commitment to ICS, but she & husband Admiral Daljit Paintal were a much loved couple in the Indian Navy. Even then, she was a devoted member of the Navy Wives Welfare Association. She mentored young wives, one of whom was myself, and her pride in following the Flag was inspiring. Sita's life motto could be summed up as pure Sewa. As you know, she passed away in Srinagar, bags packed, & ready for take off on yet another journey. She did not wake from her little nap.
