Our future is bright. In 2015, TCEC was the fi rst utility in Oklahoma to launch a community solar project. We’re proud of that and hope you are too. Last year’s solar launch is one example of why we chose to say our future is bright but there are many more.

TCEC is your electric cooperative, we’re in this together. The community solar development was a direct response to your requests. Sixty-eight percent of you wanted a renewable option on our most recent survey. We researched wind and solar options and found this model to be the most economical way for you to participate directly. The community solar program is structured to avoid subsidization among members, which can happen with other renewable generation options.

TCEC is structured to adapt to what you want from your cooperative. We are nimble and dynamic. For example, if members want us to off er a battery storage option and it benefi ts the membership while being economically feasible, we’ll try to off er a solution for that request. We strive look ahead 20, 30, 40 years or more to keep your electric bill aff ordable and continue to meet your current needs. That’s one reason we’ve had such a busy past fi ve years. We built a new building, we restructured our organization and we added community solar. All this was done strategically to ensure that TCEC is fl exible and in a position to increase value for you, our members.

Unfortunately, we don’t know what is going to happen from a regulatory or legislative perspective now or in the future. However, we will stay involved with our state and national associations as well as our local representatives. We want your voice to be heard when issues arise that can impact the cost of electricity we all rely upon.

Our cooperative continues to be healthy fi nancially. We continue to lead in capital credit retirements and invest heavily in our infrastructure through hardening and standardizing the system to keep outages to a minimum and keep costs stable. Our goal is to off er you reliable, aff ordable and quality service.

So yes, our future is bright here at TCEC — for our cooperative, our employees and our members. Now, it’s not so bright you need to wear shades as the song says. I do hope to see you at our annual meeting on September 22. After all, this is your cooperative. Together, we’re going from good to great.

A core set of principles guide the actions of cooperatives around the world. When combined with our purpose of improving the quality of life for our members, these principles make TCEC diff erent from other electric utilities.

1. Voluntary and Open MembershipAnyone can be a member of TCEC if they agree to the cooperative’s Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Services.

2. Democratic Member ControlMembers are represented by their district’s trustee on a nine member board which governs the cooperative.

3. Members’ Economic ParticipationAs a member, you have a vested interest in your local electric cooperative. You accrue patronage capital based on your energy use which is later retired and returned to you as a check.

4. Autonomy and IndependenceTCEC may belong to other organizations as a member but it will remain independently governed.

5. Education, Training and InformationLocal schools, fi refi ghters and other groups benefi t from the LiveLine safety demonstration TCEC off ers.

6. Cooperation Among CooperativesTCEC sometimes joins with PTCI, another local cooperative, to make charitable contributions or host community events. We also have mutual aid agreements with other cooperatives to give or receive help in the event of major storm damage to a system.

7. Concern for CommunityOur employees are active in their communities, serving on boards and volunteering their time. The cooperatives gives back fi nancially to many local groups and organizations as well.
