Dear Brothers and Sisters,

During the season of Lent, the Church reflects on the story of salvation especially in considering how God saved His people in the history of the Old Testament. God led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and through Moses gave them the Ten Commandments. He made a covenant with His people saying that He would bless them if they followed Him. One of the main features of the history of Salvation is not just God’s love and goodness, but also of His people’s rejection of His love. Time and time again God would save His people and time and time again they would turn away from Him. The season of Lent is a time for recognizing that the story of God’s people is also our story. God has blessed us and yet we turn away from Him and sin. This is why we needed a savior, because we cannot save ourselves.

As we move onward towards the celebration of Easter, may God open our eyes to see the greatness of His love and may we know the joy of His salvation.

Pack the Pews for The Westonka Food Shelf! During the month of March, our congregation is joining people of goodwill from across the state to help alleviate hunger. The Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign is the largest food drive in the state, and congregations like ours are the heart of the campaign.

We will be collecting both cash and food contributions to assist area families struggling with hunger. Please help Pack the Pews with food by donating as generously as you can during March.

Did you know... • The Westonka Food Shelf is staffed completely by volunteers and operates in our Grace Family Center home without the expense of rent. This allows 100% of your financial donation to go directly for the procurement of food (and refrigeration) for those in need.

• Your cash donation to The Westonka Food Shelf can go 9 or more times further because of our increased purchasing power with local food banks and matching grant opportunities.

• A $10 donation provides approximately 37 meals for the hungry in our area. • We serve more than 700 local families annually, distributing approximately 50,000 pounds of food every 30 days. In 2018, we served more than 600,000 pounds of food to our neighbors in need!

Third Sunday of Lent • Luke 13:1-9

We are not immune from human suffering. When we experience suffering, sometimes we wrongly believe

that it’s due to God punishing us for our sins.

God, who is the source of goodness, wants to save us from our suffering.

We hear in today’s first reading from Exodus: “I have witnessed the affliction of my people in Egypt,

I have come down to rescue them.”

During the Lenten season we repent for the times we have doubted in God’s merciful love. We are confident that

“God pardons our iniquities and heals all our ills.” (Psalm 103)

Bible Study In Chapter 15 of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, he talks about the resurrection. As Catholics, we believe that our body and soul are reunited after death. This is contrary to the pagan, especially Greek, philosophy that taught that our bodies are just temporary vessels that “trap” the soul, and are gone after we die. Paul teaches that by the resurrection of Christ, we can have glorified bodies after death and live with Him in heaven. Come and join the discussion!

RCIA This weekend at the 5:00pm Saturday Mass, we celebrate the first of Three Scrutinies in the RCIA program. Next week, the second Scrutiny will be held at the 8:30am Sunday Mass, and the third Scrutiny will be on Sunday, March 31st, at the 10:30am Mass. In the early Church, this was a time for the congregation to examine those people who were making a request to join the Church assembly. Because of the persecutions, the Christians were very careful about not allowing “spies” to divulge the names of their members to the Roman authorities. In modern times, it is an opportunity for the candidates to examine themselves to see if they are ready to make such a bold step. Please keep them in your prayers as we proceed to full reception at the Easter Vigil, on Saturday, April 20th.

FAITH FORMATION and Youth Ministry

Momnipotent will not be meeting this Monday, March 25th. Our remaining sessions are April 1st, 8th & 15th.

Faith Formation Classes will not meet this Wednesday, March 27th, due to Spring Break.

Edge (Middle School Youth Group) Edge will not meet on Wednesday, March 27th, due to Spring Break. We will resume sessions on April 3rd. All 6th - 8th graders welcome.

Confirmation The next Confirmation sessions are April 7th (Sunday) & April 10th (Wednesday). All candidates, please ensure you have the required NET Retreat marked on your calendars from 10:30am - 6:00pm on Saturday, April 27th.

Lent Reflection Booklets Teens, still trying to figure out how to add a prayer element for Lent? Grab a copy of One Day at a Time: Lent Reflections for Teens from the kiosk in the back of the church. This is geared toward high schoolers. The Parent/Child 1st Communion Retreat is on Sunday, April 7th, at 2:00pm in the Presentation Room. Completed workbooks and banners should be brought to the Retreat.

All children, ages 3.5 (and potty-trained) to Grade 4 are invited to join us for the best week of summer with amazing Bible stories, crafts, games, skits, and cool music, where we will explore where God’s power can take you! Catholic Services Appeal In response to the Gospel call to serve the poor and spread the Good News, the Catholic Services Appeal Foundation of the St. Paul and Minneapolis Area (CSAF) works as Christ’s hands and feet throughout the 12-county area. An independent non-profit foundation, the CSAF focuses solely on supporting 20 designated outreach ministries and nothing else. Partnering with these ministries, you

help those in need: the hungry, the orphan, the sick, suffering, dying and grieving. You assist in ministering to the imprisoned, evangelizing Catholic youth and college students, and strengthening families. You enable the sacraments to be provided to Catholics young and old alike. Newly added ministry partners this year include Abria Pregnancy Resources and The Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Twin Cities. Volunteer Opportunity Methodist Hospital Hospice will be providing Training Sessions in May for new volunteers. Our volunteers give respite care to caregivers who are caring for terminally ill loved ones in their own private homes, or visit terminally ill patients to provide comfort and support. We would also like Veteran volunteers to visit our patients who are also Veterans. If you are a Veteran and can go through training, that would be very much appreciated. have done with all the gifts He has given you? Remember, not only are we called to be generous, we are called to develop and nurture our gifts and return with increase.

Dear Parishioners,

As you may know, we are conducting a survey of all our parishioners that will help us plan for the future.

Through the parish’s long-range planning process, parish leaders have identified crucial capital needs projects to keep our Church and School strong. The survey will give us a sense of which projects parishioners consider most important.

The proposed projects involve improving Church and School safety; addressing Church, School and PACE Center capital improvements; paying off debt and establishing a cash reserve; and establishing an endowment to address pressing capital needs for the Church and School as they arise in the decades ahead.

We are considering a major capital campaign to pay for all, or some, of the projects. Please review the Fact Sheet you should have received in the mail for more details on the projects.

If you did not receive a Fact Sheet and Survey in the mail, please let the Parish or School Office know and we will get one to you right away. You may also complete the survey online at steiergroup.com/survey with the password: ladylake. Please complete the survey no later than Wednesday, April 10th.

The Steier Group, a firm that helps Catholic Churches conduct major fundraising efforts, will compile this information and present it to our church leadership. At that time, after hearing from all of you, we will prayerfully decide on the scope of the potential capital campaign to pay for the projects.

Global Solidarity Sunday: Next Weekend • March 30th & 31st

Next weekend is Global Solidarity Sunday as we celebrate “Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.” This is a unique opportunity to share the goodness of the Lord in solidarity with your brothers and sisters overseas. We are invited to offer gifts of support by contributing to this collection for four global initiatives designated by the U.S. Catholic Bishops.
