EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD

In his recent Budget proposal, Governor Cuomo included a radical bill (S.7511) that would expand late-term abortions in New York State. The bill would eliminate New York's ban on late-term abortions allowing abortion for any reason in all nine months of pregnancy, empower non-doctors to perform abortions, and permit a baby born alive after an abortion to die of neglect and starvation. The enacted state budget re-quires three-way negotiation and must be finalized by April 1. The State Senate is our only hope to stop this tragedy. Please let your State Senator know that they must not allow the state budget to be used as a vehicle for expanding late-term abortion. For ease of communication in contacting your Senator, go to www.nyscatholic.org and click on "Take Action", which will provide a message you can send directly to your Senator. If you prefer to call Rep. Senator John Flanagan (Majority Leader), who will be part of the three-way negotiation, he can be reached at (631) 361-2154, and say:

"I am calling because Governor Cuomo included a radical abor-tion expansion proposal (S.7511) in his budget bills. This pro-posal would eliminate virtually all limitations on abortion in New York State, particularly on late-term abortions. GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UN-DERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE April 1, 2018 Easter Sunday

The first light of Easter dawn had begun to creep over the hori-zon. The steadfast women from Friday's gory events are returning again to the body of their Lord. "Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" How quickly we return to mundane concerns and how thoroughly God wants to surprise us! Imagine the utter shock upon seeing the stone rolled away, the tomb empty, and a stranger clothed in light proclaiming the im-possible. "You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here." He is risen indeed and the world will never be the same. We know from other Gospel passages that Mary Magdalene made haste to the disciples to proclaim the Good News. We know that Peter and John rushed to the tomb to see for themselves. We know that the wonder and awe of the Resurrection permeated the lives of the apostles until their own dying day. Can we comprehend the utterly world-changing nature of this surprise? The historical reanimation of a dead man is of no real value to us. But we know that Easter Sunday is so much more. By the Resurrection of Jesus, life has triumphed over death for us all. The gates of heaven are opened and the treasury of graces is poured out upon the here and now. This Resurrection Day, let us draw near, amazed yet unafraid, to the risen Christ. Let us recall the words of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, "Jesus is not a charac-ter from the past. He lives, and he walks before us as one who is alive, he calls us to follow him, the living one, and in this way to discover for ourselves the path of life" (Easter Vigil, April 15, 2006).

MEDITACIÓN EVANGÉLICO - ALENTAR ENTENDI-MIENTO MÁS PROFUNDO DE LA ESCRITURA (Gospel Meditation) 1 de abril de 2018 Domingo de Pascua

Ha resucitado, no está aquí. Igual que las mujeres del Evangelio, vamos de la tumba vacía, de la muerte a la vida. Aun más allá, de encontrando vida, debemos ser esa vida. Se puede ser esa vida, porque Cristo Resucitado vive en nosotros, creciendo en nuestros valores y en nuestras acciones. Por eso, está es la nueva era de ser discípulos misioneros de Jesucristo. ¡Aleluya! ¿Qué nos falta para ser nueva vida? Ser como las mujeres a pesar de su miedo crey-eron lo que escucharon. "No se asusten. Si ustedes buscan a Jesús Nazareno, el crucificad, no está aquí, ha resucitado". (Marcos 16:6). Ahí, precisamente esta el secreto de este Domingo de Pascua. Escuchar y creer, e ir a anunciar el acontecimiento a la familia y amigos. Estamos viviendo un tiempo de muchos miedos, las no-ticias que escuchamos y vemos por los medios de comunicación no son alentadoras, el desanimo social es contundente. Pero el que escoge creer en la presencia de Cristo Resucitado --- es guiado por él a continuar con sus buenos valores y acciones. El punto es no caer en desánimos. Las mujeres buscaban un cadáver, pero encontraron una misión muy distinta, unida a la vida no a la muerte. Ellas, de ser mujeres miedosas se han convertido a través de los tiempos en mujeres de la Pascua. ¡Testigos vivos de Jesús! Quizá, se piense por fin se ha llegado al final. Pero en realidad estamos al principio. Recordemos, que, todo empezó en Galilea con Jesús de Nazaret. Este es el compromiso ser testigos y dar testimonio del Resucitado. ¡Aleluya, aleluya!

Raffle You will see in your parish envelopes that each month

there will be a 50/50. An envelope is provided for

each month. To play the 50/50, please put $5.00 in the

envelope. The drawing will be held at the last Mon-

day of each month. The winner will win half and the

church will receive the other half. This is a small fun

way for the parish to raise money.

Mensaje De Nuestro Pastor ¡Feliz Pascua para todos! ¡El Señor ha resucitado, lo ha hecho! Nuestra devoción de "Cuarenta Horas " fue otro gran éxito. Gra-cias por pasar esos momentos de oración con el Señor durante todo el fin de semana. Gracias también a los feligreses que pasa-ron largas horas durante la noche y la mañana. Muchas gracias si siguen tales oraciones... Ya lo veo y lo experimentó en nuestra parroquia. Por ejemplo, hubo bastantes personas a quienes no había visto en algunos años que vinieron a la Iglesia el pasado Domingo de Ramos. Fue genial darles la bienvenida a casa. También hubo bastantes caras nuevas en la mezcla. ¡Asegúrense de darles le bienvenida a su nuevo hogar! ¡Gracias también a tantos voluntarios, ministros, servidores y ujieres que ayudaron a hacer de esta Semana Santa verdadera-mente "Santa!". Somos muy bendecidos aquí en nuestra par-roquia con personas tan maravillosas que aman tanto a su par-roquia y hacen todo lo posible para compartir su alegría con los Demás. Continuemos creciendo como una comunidad tan amo-rosa a través del poder que fluye de la Resurrección de Jesucris-to. Una historia verdadera que escuche hace muchos años siempre me vuelve a visitar en Pascua. Es la historia de una pareja casada de ancianos que recibe la terrible noticia de que la esposa tiene cáncer. Después de los tratamientos y un montón de consultas medicas, era obvio para la esposa que iba a morir muy pronto. Fue alrededor de Febrero cuando finalmente les dijo a todos que le gustaría morir pacíficamente en su propia casa. Sin embargo, ella todavía quería preparar su jardín. Ella y su esposo no tenían hijos. Solían referirse a las flores y plantas en su jardín como sus hijos. En cualquier caso, Los vecinos vinieron a ayudar a la es-posa en su porche mientras colocaba en macetas sus plantas y Flores para que fueran trasladadas al jardín para la primavera. Qué imagen tan maravillosa, poner una meseta y planta resurrección dentro de nosotros. Eso es ex-actamente lo que el Señor nos ofrece en todo momento, no solo en tiempos de sufrimiento. Entonces mis amigos, a medida que la Pascua se extienda una vez más por la gracia de Dios, también podemos tomar este tiem-po para plantar la Resurrección de Jesús en el jardín de nuestras almas. La fe en la resurrección de Jesús dice que hay un futuro para cada ser humano; el grito por la vida interminable que es parte de la persona es de hecho respondido. (Papa emérito Benedicto XVI,)

From the Pastor’s Desk Happy Easter everyone! The Lord is risen, Indeed He has! Our “Forty Hour” devotion was another great success. Thank you spending such prayerful time with the lord throughout the weekend. Thanks, too, to those parishioners who spent long hours throughout the night and morning. Many graces follow such prayers. I already see and experience them in our parish. For instance, there were quite a few people who I haven’t seen in a few years who came to Church this past Palm Sunday. It was great to welcome them home. There are also quite a few new faces in the mix. Let’s be sure to welcome them to their new home! Thanks as well to so many volunteers, ministers, servers and ushers who helped make this Holy Week truly “Holy!” We are very blessed here at our parish with such wonderful people who love their parish so much and do all they can to share their joy with others. Let us continue to grow as such a loving community through the power that flows from the resurrection of Jesus Christ. A true story I heard many years ago always revisits me at Easter. It is the story of an elderly married couple who receive terrible news that the wife has cancer. After treatments and tons of doc-tors’ visits, it was obvious to the wife that she was going to die very soon. It was around February when she finally told every-one that she would like to die peacefully in her own home. However, she still wanted to prepare her garden. She and her husband had no children. They used to refer to the flowers and plants in their garden as their children. In any event, neighbors came to help the wife on her porch as she potted her plants and flowers to be moved into the garden for the spring. Her husband would constantly plead with her to relax, to let others do all the work. But no, she was very stubborn. She guided and explained to the neighbors where in the garden they were to plant every-thing. She did this up until a week before she died. A few weeks after her funeral, on a beautiful spring day, her hus-band took a walk around the neighborhood. On returning to his home, he looked at this magnificent garden that his wife pre-pared with the help of the neighbors. He began to smile and he later told his pastor, “I realized now that all the while she was spending on preparing the garden, she was also potting and planting the resurrection within her!” What a wonderful image, to pot and to plant the resurrection within us. That is exactly what the Lord offers us at all times not just in suffering times. So my friends, as Easter rolls around once more by the grace of God, may we too take this time to pot and plant the resurrection of Jesus in the garden of our souls.
