If you look for Me at Christmas, You won’t need a special star~ I’m no longer just in Bethlehem, I’m right there where you are, You may not be aware of Me amid the celebrations~ You’ll have to look beyond the stores and all the decorations. But if you take a moment from your list of things to do And listen to your heart, you’ll find I’m waiting there for you. You’re the one I want to be with, You’re the reason that I came, And you’ll find Me in the stillness as I’m whispering your name. Love, Jesus

Movie: The story of the Nativity

Take time today to savor the miracle of this day. Grab a cup of hot chocolate and watch this engaging exploration of the true story of Mary and Joseph, Jesus’s miraculous conception, the birth of John the Baptist, the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethle-hem, the Star of Bethlehem, and the birth of Jesus. This is an invaluable tool for believer and unbeliever alike to learn more about Jesus of Nazareth and about the truth of Christmas

Merry Christmas from the Pastor

I want every family to please take a copy of the book, “Resisting Happiness” by Matthew Kelly. A true story about why we sabotage ourselves, feel overwhelmed, set aside our dreams, and lack the courage to simply be ourselves...and how to start choosing happiness again! The books are located in the back of each worship site. Merry Christmas!

In conformity with these parishes, if the Octorara School District is closed or delayed due to inclement weather, the daily Mass at OLC will be cancelled. We want our parishioners to be safe.

December 25, 2016-Christmas Day Reflection by Rev. Leonard N. Peterson “A kid in a candy store.” That’s how people of all ages are sometimes described when they are fortunate enough to have a panoply of good options before them. When I was a boy, living in the city, a real candy store was just down the block and around the corner, quite walkable for young legs. No need to be driven to one from a suburban cul de sac. I can still picture all the goodies on display behind the beveled glass doors of the counter, where I could use my residual allowance, a net sum post filling a percentage in my the little Church envelope. (Remember those?) At the risk of being disrespectful, that is analogous to the situation of a writer faced with reflecting on the Mass Readings for Christmas. Which ones? There are four settings for Masses, each with their own Read-ings, beginning with the Vigil, followed by the Mass at Midnight, then the Mass at Dawn, and finally the Mass during the Day. For my Reflections, I chose the Readings for the Mass at Midnight. Luke’s beautiful gospel, coupled with Isaiah’s prophecy, which centuries later gave Handel some of the lyrics for his “Messiah” oratorio. To those, St. Paul’s excerpt offers guidelines for living a post-Christmas lifestyle. But it is the Lucan gospel that most appeals to me. As a doctor, Luke has the keen eye of the physician, who misses few details just looking at his patient. As an educated man, he writes in classical Greek with a fine style. In this second chapter, he paints the Christmas scene we all love as if for a greeting card. Obedient Joseph goes to the city of his royal ancestor David, but has to settle for a location far from palatial for the birth of his foster Son. Mary, ever patient and made even more beautiful by firelight, delivers the Child but has to place Him in a smelly manger for a crib. (Did the straw chafe His skin as a harbinger of agonizing pain to come much later?) Finally, that angelic choir filling the concert hall of the heavens that we can almost hear; was it background for that lone angel’s clarion call: “Do not be afraid!” And then the final paean of praise: “Glory to God in the highest!” What does it all mean? Luke lets us draw our own conclusions. Certainly the ultimate for me is the fact that Divinity is often where you least expect to find it. Yes, it is in the faces of those we hold near and dear, but also in those of the worried stranger; the downtrodden street beggar; the Third World hungry child. But rarely if ever is Divinity found where luxury abounds. So don’t look for it in the palaces of the powerful, unless those who reside there use their good fortune to help those with less. Don’t look for it in the pornog-rapher’s studio, where exploitation of fellow human beings is rampant. Don’t seek it in the chairperson’s of-fice, unless the chair holder treats the shareholders with respect. Don’t look for it in the judge’s chambers, unless the occupant is unafraid of mercy. But always look for Divinity in those places in the heart of good but ordinary folk who love God and try each day to do His will, even when they don’t understand it or even find it disagreeable. Look for it in smiles that come regularly and love that endures mightily. Look for it in your own heart and soul that responds to the Hope that a Child’s birth in a stable over twenty centuries ago guarantees. And stay young enough to have the excitement of a kid in a candy shop when each new day of your life dawns. A blessed Christmas to you! Readings from Mass at Midnight First Reading: Isaiah 9:1-6 The prophet describes how the dynasty would fare after Ahaz. Little did Isaiah know that he was describing the kingdom of God and the coming of the Prince of Peace, Christ our Lord. Second Reading: Titus 2:11-14 God’s saving action is personified in Jesus. He “trains us” with a fuller education, and promotes the life of virtue. Gospel: Luke 2:10-11 Luke’s narrative not only tells us about the Baby Jesus lying in the manger, but also the meaning of it.
