possibly accomplish all that needs to be done for over 60 ministries and services of the Annual Catholic Appeal.
Gifts of any amount are welcome; your gift will make everything possible. It is not too late to return your pledge envelope if you haven’t already done so! Please fill out a pledge envelope today or go online to donate: www.seattlearchdiocese.org/donate
To schedule an intention, please visit the Welcome desk after a weekend liturgy or stop by the office during the week.
"Men of Faith: Growing in our Relationship with God and Family" Father & Son Retreat at Palisades in Federal Way
Directed by Bishop Edward J. Burns June 17-19, 2016 This retreat will look at how we live as disciples of Jesus Christ in today's society. It will explore how our Lord calls us to grow in relationship with our Heavenly Father and members of our own family. We will look at the challenges and difficulties in being followers of Jesus Christ and how to strengthen and discipline ourselves in living the fullness of life to which Christ calls us. This retreat is intended for fathers and adult or teenage sons aged 13+. SCHOOL MINISTRY NEWS The school and parish CYO track season came to an end with the Team Championships last Saturday. We had some great finishes in the meet: Hi'ilei
L. took 1st place in the 60M and 1st place in the turbo jav, Gigi B. took 1st place in the 400M and 1st place in the turbo jav, Sydney B. took 3rd in the 100M, Ella B. took 2nd place in the 800M, Dylan W. took 1st place in the turbo jav, and our shuttle relay team (Ella B., Hi’ilei L., Sydney B., and Gigi B.) took 3rd place. We only had seven competitors, but they all finished the season strong. Everyone should be very proud of themselves. Coach Shelly Weinstein thanks everyone on the track team this year: Jack S., James S., Anika S., Will H., Will S., Dylan W., Hi’ilei L., Ella B., Sydney B., Jane H., Maggie R., Virginia N., Maria M., Mary S., Gigi B., Gavin L., Benson K., and Jay N. She says it was a pleasure to coach the team and that the children made the season a lot of fun. She’s looking forward to next year! Thank you, too, Coach Weinstein!
In alumni news, graduating Seattle Prep senior Patrick Paulsen was a Finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. He scored in the top 1% of the more than one-and-a-half million juniors who took the PSAT in 2014. Patrick also received a Department Award for Academic Excellence in Social Studies. In other School Awards and Recognitions at Prep, Iris Thatcher was noted for Community Ministry and Alex Martin was noted for Publications.
We congratulate all of our former OLF School students who were confirmed this past week. This is such an important part of one's faith journey, and we are proud of you all.
WELCOME DESK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers are needed to help out at the Welcome Desk after the week-
end Masses, especially after the Saturday 5pm and Sunday 10:30am Mass. Time commitment is 15-20 minutes after Mass. You can do one Sunday per month or more if you are so inclined. This is a great way to learn more about our Parish and School and to meet some of our fabulous Parishioners. For more information, stop by the Welcome Desk or call the Parish Office 283-1456.
St. Joseph, St. Mary, and Jesus on the crucifix are being refurbished and will return to our church in several weeks. This might be a good time to remind ourselves why we have these images in our church. The Bishops’ document, Built of Living Stones, sets out the policy for church art and architecture. Paragraph 91 states: “The cross with the image of Christ crucified is a reminder of Christ's paschal mystery. It draws us into the mystery of suffering and makes tangible our belief that our suffering when united with the passion and death of Christ leads to redemption.” Regarding other images it says: “Reflecting the awareness of the Communion of Saints, the practice of incorporating symbols of the Trinity, images of Christ, the Blessed Mother, the angels, and the saints into the design of a church creates a source of devotion and prayer for a parish community and should be part of the design of the church. Images can be found in stained glass windows, on wall frescos and murals, and as statues and icons. Often these images depict scenes from the bible or from the lives of the saints and can be a source of instruction and catechesis as well as devotion. Since the Eucharist unites the Body of Christ, including those who are not physically present, the use of images in the church reminds us that we are joined to all who have gone before us, as well as to those who now surround us.” ¶ 135

PALISADES RETREAT CENTER "Habits of a Very Loving Marriage" Married Couples' Enrichment Retreat
Fr. Pat Freitag - June 3-5, 2016
Consider this marriage enrichment retreat as an extended date-night, the chance to get away together and talk without the distractions and demands of everyday life.
The "Habits of a Very Loving Marriage" seminar is based on Stephen R. Covey's No. 1 bestseller The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman. This marriage workshop offers a framework for applying a universal, self-discovery approach that enables couples to communicate successfully.

TENT CITY 5 Our neighbors, Interbay Tent City (TC5), currently need blocks of ice, and propane for cooking - 2
blocks will last for 3 days. They would appreciate QFC gift cards, which should be given to a TC5 on-site supervisor. Additionally, U-Haul has an account for filling TC5 propane tanks. Please stop by Tent City for more information and/or a tour of the community.
