Dear Parishioners and Visitors, Happy 2017. As we begin this new year, appropriately with this celebration of the Eucharist—that food for
the journey—I found this “New Year’s Day” prayer by Joyce Rupp, a contemporary Spiritual writer, and as I share it
with you, and as you pray it, may you be blessed with every good thing in this brand new year.
“God of the new year, we are walking into mystery. We face the future, not knowing what the days and
months will bring to us or how we will respond. May we welcome all who come our way. Deepen our faith to see
all of life through your eyes. Fill us with hope and abiding trust that you dwell in us amidst our joys and sorrows.
Thank you for the gift of being able to rise each day assured of your walking with us through the day. May our
friendship with you be strong and healthy. May that love be both a comfort and a challenge as we struggle to find
our way in the new year. God of this new year, we praise you! Amen.”
And as we also celebrate Mary the Mother of God today, “Our Lady of Good Counsel, pray for us.”
Happy New Year! Fr. Michael

OLGC FOOD PANTRY NEEDS:
For The Pantry… Juice, Baked Beans
& Can Fruit
A Huge Thank You to our parishioners, CFJ School, UEHS Honor Society & many community members for their gener-
ous donations to our Food Pantry over the past month. For the
1st time in a long time our shelves are full and can meet the
many needs. We also, at this time, have a young lady who is
an avid couponer. She has generously offered us her help in
obtaining items for our pantry at very good prices if not for
free. She is saving us a lot of money! If you have coupons
that you don’t use and would like to donate them to our cause,
please feel free to leave them on the table outside of the food
pantry and she will make good use of them. Although our
shelves are full today, our needs are many so please con-
tinue to make your donations to keep our pantry running
throughout the year. God bless all of you.
SOUP KITCHEN: We continue to be in need of volun-
teers for our Soup Kitchen Teams. If you are interested
please call Karen at 748-7417 or email to Outreach-
Weather Reminder: If UE Schools are canceled due
to Snow, the Soup Kitchen is Canceled.
Health Care: Are you interested in learning more about
Health Care Choices? Lynn from Fidelis Care will be here on 1/20 at 4:30-6:00 pm in the Church Hall. If you are
uninsured she may be able to find the right plan for you.
She works with individuals and families regarding Family
& Child Health Care Plus programs as well as Medicaid
and Medicare programs. Cindy from United Health Care will be here on 1/27 at 4:30-6:00 pm in the church hall to
discuss United HealthCare Dual Complete plan and EPIC
as well as other options available. Please feel free to stop in
to discuss your health care needs.
Holiday Baskets: Once again you are a wonderful par-ish, your food basket contributions helped 140 families
both at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Holiday Recipients
were truly appreciative and praised our church community
for the compassion and assistance they received. Your
generosity gave so many a heartfelt holiday season.
Thank you!
A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from the
Office of Family Life Education (a Hope Appeal
Agency)
The gospel tells us “Mary kept all these things, pon-
dering them in her heart.” We would do well to imitate Mary
in our New Year’s resolution. Instead of criticizing let’s
“keep it in our hearts.” Criticism isn’t productive or well
received anyway!
Please be Aware: There will be NO 7:00 pm Mass this Sunday, 1/1/17, The Solemnity of Mary, New Years Day, at St. Ambrose Church.
Due to the New Year’s Holiday, there will be NO 8:30

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Elementary RE Classes Resume Next Sunday, January
8 and Tuesday, January 10, 2017.
The Next Session for Confirming Disciples (Grade 10) is Next Saturday, January 7, at 11:00 am. Please note
the earlier start time to accommodate student completion of
the community service surveys.
JOY BOXES: The cold weather has returned and with it the Joy Boxes. There are 2 boxes at the Grippen St. En-trance. It seems the safest place for them. Please donate
the following items for pre K & Kindergarten children: mittens, hats, sweat pants with elastic waistband, packaged
underwear & small sneakers. They will be distributed to elementary schools in Endicott, Binghamton and at Head Start. If you have any questions, please call Ginny at 201-
9910. Thank you.
Please Help Us! If you have a family member or know of a parishioner who has been admitted to a nursing home or rehab center, please notify the Rectory or call Terri at 341-1120. We want to be able to minister to their spiritual well-
being and keep them in our prayers.
Our Sunday Bulletin is the primary way we communi-cate with our parish members. Through arrangement with Liturgical Publications, the parish does not pay for the bul-letin printing, which saves us thousands of dollars each year. Our bulletin is supported through the generosity of the advertisers, many of whom are our own parish mem-bers or members of the local community. We urge you to support our advertisers with your patronage. Tell the busi-ness owner that you appreciate their support of our parish through their advertising in our bulletin. This is one way we can work to create a vibrant community. A strong en-gaged parish is good for our community and a strong busi-
ness community is good for our parish.
Volunteers Needed at Lourdes Hospital: Do you have
the desire to explore new opportunities while giving back to
the community? Come and Volunteer at Lourdes Hospital! For more information or a Volunteer Application visit
www.Lourdes.com or call 798-5490.
