Fr. Emmanuel’s Bible Study How to Evangelize using the Bible Fr. Emmanuel’s Bible Study has resumed. The class is offered on Tuesday nights at 7:00 PM and Wednesday mornings at 10:00 AM. Stewardship Committee Retreat Please keep the Stewardship Committee in prayer as we gather on Saturday, February 17. We are going to do some 5 year range planning and present different impacts of stewardship. In the morning ministry coordinators are invited to join us as we do the range planning. Our Catholic Appeal Weekend February 17—18 Supporting Human Dignity & Solidarity Feeding the Body of Christ Through gifts to Our Catholic Appeal, Catholic Charities helps more than 69,000 people each year with food, housing, healthcare, and adoption services. They were also able to quickly mobilize emergency food and water to provide relief to those without power and recovering from Hurricane Irma. Through the Eucharistic presence in us as Catholics, we need to take food and share it with those in need.

También lograron movilizar rápidamente alimentos y agua de emergencia para brindar alivio a quienes no tienen electricidad y se recu-peran del huracán Irma. A través de la presencia eucarística en nosotros como católicos, debemos tomar alimentos y compartirlos con los necesitados.

Thank you to all of the countries that participated in Taste of Grace. It was a wonderful food experience and we appreciate you being a part of it. We had 21 countries and they profited $3,603 so GREAT job. The food tables under the tents were great too. Thanks to all who volunteered. They brought in an income of $9,390, but expenses have not been determined. Final numbers on the festival will hopefully be out in a couple of weeks. Gracias a todos los países que participaron en el "Taste of Grace". Fue una experiencia culinaria maravillosa y apreciamos que fueran parte de ella. Tuvimos 21 países y se recaudaron $3,603 por lo que fue un EXCELENTE trabajo. Las mesas de comida bajo las carpas también estuvieron grandiosas. We do keep very busy trying to promote all aspects of stewardship from our spiritual aspect, to sharing our gifts, to asking for tithing. GIVE GOD THE GLORY A curious feature of the first half of Mark’s Gos-pel is the pattern of Jesus working a miracle, then telling the recipient of the miracle to keep still about it. Many theories have been offered: Mark is setting the stage for the great “secret” revealed when Peter will proclaim Je-sus the Messiah at Caesarea Philippi; more skeptical commentators offer that Jesus, fully aware of human nature, knew that the way to spread the news was to tell people to keep it secret. The insight into this secret-keeping that serves us well, however, is that Jesus was initiating his public ministry according to the pattern that Paul describes. He was doing it for the glory of God—not for his own benefit, but for that of all. Paul would later write in Philippians that Jesus “humbled” himself to become like us. And we see this humility at work in to-day’s healing of the leper. Jesus is trying to reveal the presence of God’s reign among the people, not so that he himself might receive the glory, but so that God would be glorified through him. Imitating this pattern, which Paul encourages the Jewish and Greek Christian factions in Corinth to do, still serves us well today.Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

A DIOS TODA LA GLORIA Una característica peculiar de la primera parte del Evangelio según san Marcos es que en general Jesús obra un milagro y luego le dice al beneficiario del milagro que no se lo cuente a nadie. Se ha especulado mucho al respecto: Marcos está preparando el terreno para el gran “secreto” que se revelará cuando Pedro proclame que Jesús es el Me-sías en Cesárea de Filipo; otros comentaristas más escépti-cos sostienen que Jesús, quien era plenamente consciente de su naturaleza humana, sabía que la mejor manera de difun-dir la Buena Nueva era pidiéndole a las personas que la mantuvieran en secreto. La reflexión de esta manera de guardar el secreto que nos resulta muy útil, sin embargo, es que Jesús estaba comenzando su ministerio público de la forma en que describe Pablo: lo estaba haciendo por la glo-ria de Dios, no para beneficio propio sino para beneficio de todos. Pablo después escribiría a los filipenses que Jesús “se rebajó a sí mismo” para parecerse a nosotros. Y vemos cómo esta humildad se pone en práctica hoy en la curación del leproso. Jesús está intentando revelar la presencia del Reino de Dios entre las personas, no para recibir gloria sino para que Dios fuera glorificado por él.
