Our Lady of Hope This Week

EVERY GOOD THING THAT HAPPENS TO US

PROVIDES A GLIMPSE INTO THE JOY THAT

WILL BE OURS IN HEAVEN

When good things happen to us, we get an idea of what the kingdom of heaven is like: it is always time for celebration. Happily, we do not have to wait until we die to join the celebration. For by placing our faith in Jesus and living according to His teachings, we can experience the blessings of the kingdom of God amidst our lives on earth.

2017 FAITH Catholic-Publishing and Communications

LITURGY OF THE WORD

The first reading tells of how King Solomon asks the Lord to grant him an understanding heart so he can lead his people well. In the second reading, we hear that all things work for good for those who love God. In the Gospel, Jesus uses parable to give His followers an idea of the joy that is theirs in the kingdom of heaven.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THE SEVEN-

TEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

“The law of Your mouth is to me more precious than thousands of gold and silver pieces,” says the Psalmist today. Does the amount of my offering suggest that I could honestly say the same?

VIRTUS TRAINING-PROTECT OUR CHILDREN!

Virtus is a program that gives us a specific plan in identifying and preventing child sexual abuse. The training is required of all diocesan personnel and vol-unteers in all parishes.

If you are a volunteer and still need to fulfill this obli-gation check the Long Island Catholic or the Diocesan website, www.drvc.org for training sessions available in the area. Please register for the class online or stop in the Church office.

Summer, for children, often means more unstruc-tured time and maybe less supervision. Don’t fall into the trap of letting social media and the internet be-come your child’s connection for peer interactions. Commonsensemedia.org offers suggestions for safe on-line apps for children of all ages and tips for par-ents concerned about their children’s internet use.

The Office for the Protection of Children and Young People maintains a confidential phone line: 516 594-9063. We are available to help you or anyone who has been abused or victimized by someone representing the Catholic Church. All calls are responded to within 24 hours.

WE SHARE ONLINE GIVING

Online giving has become available at Our Lady of Hope and it’s safe, simple and convenient. Please visit olhope.weshareonline.org to get started. The site is very “user friendly”, but if you still have questions please do not hesitate to call the church office or WeShare directly at 855 800-4273.

FREE FOOD FOR LOW INCOME SENIORS

The CSFP (Commodity Supplemental Food Program), funded by USDA, NYSDOH and administered by Catholic Charities is offering free food for 6 to 12 months post-partum women, children from the age of 5 up to their sixth birthday, and seniors age 60 and over, who are income eligible. The food package in-cludes cheese, milk, starches, cereals, juices, canned fruits, vegetables, canned fish, meats and more. In-come guidelines for seniors are as follows: Gross monthly income; for single senior-$1,180 or less, for senior couple-$1,594 or less. For further information and income guidelines for women and children in Nassau and Suffolk, please call 631 623-4568 or 631 491-4156.

BAPTISM PREPARATION CLASSES

The class for Baptism will be held every other month on the last Sunday of the month at 11am in the lower church. The next class scheduled is September 24.

FAMILY, MARRIAGE AND INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Family, marriage and individual therapy, provided by NYS licensed therapists including therapists who spe-cialize in Depression, Divorce Mediation and Domes-tic Violence, are available to our parishioners at 147 other parishes. This program, under the direction of Dr. George Giuliani, has been conducted in the dio-cese for the past 41 years for the convenience of pa-rishioners. It is provided by the Catholic Counseling Center, which is independent of and not controlled or supervised by the parish or diocese. Most insurance policies, including Medicare, are honored. We are currently looking for licensed therapists in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens. For confidential information and appointments, please call Dr. Giuliani at the Catholic Counseling Center at 631 243-2503 or go to: http://www.thecatholiccounselingcenter.com.

OFFICE HOURS

The Church office will close on Fridays at 1pm for the month of August. Happy summer!
