3rd Sunday of Lent

"While he was in Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, many began to believe in his

name when they saw the signs he was doing." How we would love to see those

signs! How easy it would be for us to believe if we too could witness Jesus healing the sick, feeding the multitudes, calm-ing the storm. It's tempting to imagine that faith was a sim-ple thing back in those days. We might be inclined to think that we don't have the same benefits as those first believers, and so faith is harder in our day and age. But is it, really?

In truth, we have an advantage that none of those people had: two thousand years of Church history! Two millennia

of faithful, prayerful Christians believing in Jesus and spreading the Gospel; the collective witness of the

saints--many of whom have also worked "signs" in Jesus' name; the effects of the Church on culture and the world through its schools, its hospitals, its spiritual movements, and religious institutions; the unbroken line of apostolic succession that traces back to the time of Christ. Just the

fact alone that the Church is still alive and well in spite of all of its sinful members ought to be miracle enough for us.

But even with all of this testimony, it's important to remem-ber that seeing signs and believing in Jesus are not the same thing. Even those who witnessed Jesus' miracles had to take

the next step by choosing to accept him as their Lord. Ultimately, all of these convincing details are not the point.

The point is to encounter Jesus on a personal level. The signs may open the door to bring us closer to him, but it's up to us to walk through that door. May we walk so as to come "to believe the Scripture." ©2011 Liturgical Publications

The Altar Flowers this weekend are given to the

Glory and Honor of God by the Altar Society

Sharing the Gospel with Children Imagine coming to your church to pray. All around your

church, you see people selling animals. The animals are

loud. The people are shouting. You cant even pray with all

the noise and activity going on around you. That is what

Jesus found in today's Gospel. It broke his heart and

made Jesus angry. God's house is not supposed to be

turned into a barn or a store. It should be special place

where people can meet with God and talk to him. Jesus

cleaned out his Father's house. He turned it back into a

place of prayer.

Prayer: God, my church is a place for prayer. Help me to

remember that always.

Draw: Draw a picture of people singing and praying in your

church.

Mission for the Week: Read John 2:13-25 with your family.

Ask God to help you keep your church clean. Church should

never be a store or a barn. It should be a special place to

pray.©2007 - LPiResourceCenter.com

LIFT UP YOUR HEART A Closer Look at the Meaning of the Mass Seminar

Did you know that the Mass has been designed for us to have an emotional AND spiritual experience? Maybe you haven’t ever been

taught how to fully enjoy both. This guidance is being offered at St. Joseph Mission in Redwood. This seminar series will help you

experience Mass with more emotional involvement. This seminar series is an exploration of the spiritual realm of Mass and will be offered on:

SUNDAY March 8 – Preparation and receiving Communion SUNDAY March 15 – Having received Communion...ok, now what?

Class starts immediately following the 11am Mass in the Church. Call Cindy Edwards with your questions at 830-303-3035.

V Vocation Corner V Prayer for Vocations LORD OF THE HARVEST, BLESS young people with the gift of courage to respond to your call. Open their hearts to great ideals, to great things. INSPIRE all of your disciples to mutual love and giving - for vocations blossom in the good soil of faithful people. INSTILL those in religious life, parish ministries, and families with the confidence and grace to invite others to embrace the bold and noble path of a life consecrated to you. UNITE us to Jesus through prayer and sacrament, so that we may cooperate with you in building your reign of mercy and truth, of justice and peace. Amen. -Pope Francis
