Dear Friends, We have already received a tremendous response in gifts and pledges and our archdi-ocesan annual appeal for 2017 has the look of success. This year our goal is to increase parish participation for the AAA to 100%. Last year, 30% of you participated in the appeal, and from that 30% we were able to raise over

$135,000. I hope that each parish family will offer a gift to the appeal to help support the work of the Church throughout our Archdiocese. Please complete your donation card, as found in the pews, in a spirit of prayer, generosity, and Chris-tian stewardship. No gift is too small when given from the heart! Please be sure to mail your gift to the Archdiocese or place it in the offertory basket. On behalf of all those whose lives will be changed by your gift, thank you! Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of our Lenten Season. Masses are at 9am, 6pm, and 8pm in Spanish. For those of you who live and work here in Novato, a simple Prayer Service will begin at 12:15pm. Ashes will be distributed at all the above mentioned celebrations. On Fridays of Lent, we will have Stations of the Cross: English Stations at 6pm and Spanish Stations at 7:30pm. Maria Cresine’s Memorial Mass is coming Tuesday, February 28th at 11am. Maria was a long time parishioner here who helped out with the candles in Church. Maria had no family. OLL was here family! A reception will be put on by Helping Hands after the Mass. Go with God, Maria. You will be missed! Have a Great Lent! Father Brian

F A Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence.

For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on

fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When

fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well

as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full

meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are

binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from

age 14 onwards.

Members of the Eastern Catholic Churches are to ob-

serve the particular law of their own sui iuris Church.

If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the

Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the "paschal

fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus,

and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to cele-

brate more readily his Resurrection.

OLL Adult Faith Formation

Please join us for our Lenten Series Road to Corona-tion which we are presenting to registered participants on Wednesdays at 10am in the convent chapel during Lent. Road to Coronation presents a vivid portrait of Je-sus the Servant King — who welcomed outcasts as fami-ly, touched and raised the dead, performed miracles that made astonishing theological statements, and confound-ed the spiritual authorities of His day. Five days after Je-sus entered Jerusalem, the center of religious and politi-cal power, His "coronation" took place ... on a cross. Vin-dicated in the resurrection and enthroned in the ascen-sion, Jesus calls us to listen, believe, and follow. The dates for the classes are as follows: 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29, & 4/5. For more information, please con-tact Amy Reeder at (415) 897-6714 or by email to [email protected] or Annie Troy (415) 897-2171 x 277 or by email to [email protected]. Registration is required and open to the first 30 participants. Our next meeting of the OLL Book Club is taking place on Thursday March 2 at 10am in the Convent Chap-el. We will discuss William P. Young's novel The Shack. Please join us for coffee, treats, discussion, and fellowship. If you are not currently on our email list, please contact [email protected] and I'll send you the discussion questions ahead of time.

Carmelite Monastery 530 Blackstone Drive San Rafael, CA 94903 The Discalced Carmelite Nuns cordially invite you to attend their annual Novena to St. Joseph from March 11th to March 19th, with Mass and Vespers celebrated at 4:00 p.m. each afternoon, in the Monastery Chapel. This year’s Novena will be conducted by Rev Jose Luis Ferroni, OCD, a Carmelite Friar of the Cali-

fornia/Arizona Province of St. Joseph. Father is in resi-dence at the Monastery of Mount St. Joseph in San Jose. Father is an outstanding homilist and will share with us his great love of St. Joseph. We hope you will join us for these nine days of prayer and reflection.

CYO Track Registration is now open! CYO track is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8. Practices will be held twice a week beginning in mid-March.

Segunda lectura — No juzgues, sólo Dios juzgará (1 Corintios 4:1-5). Evangelio — Dios alimenta a las aves y viste a las flores. No estés ansioso; Dios conoce todas tus nece-sidades (Mateo 6:24-34).

María no tenía familia.

Él no dice: “No coman. No coci-nen. No compren ropa”. Él dice: “No te preocupes”.
