How appropriate that this wondrous approval for the grotto came on the very eve of the feast of St. Bernadette, the visionary at Lourdes. All together, there would be 18 appearances of the Blessed Mother to St. Bernadette Soubirous in the cave or grotto at Massabielle. Heaven had come to earth at Lourdes, France. The Mother of God would ask that a chapel be built there, that processions be held, and that penance be done especially for sinners. And yes, when asked to identify herself, the heavenly visitor stated - Je Suis Immaculee’ Conception…I am the Immaculate Conception. But perhaps the most memorable of all the apparitions was the ninth one, when Bernadette, at the Lady’s instructions, unearthed and revealed a miraculous spring of water that immediately brought bodily and spiritual healings to many. To this day, pilgrims drink from that spring and bathe in its waters longing for healing in body and soul. O Happy Grotto at

Lourdes which was honored with the apparitions of the Immaculate One. O Venerable Cave and Rock of Massabielle from which sprung forth such wondrous healing waters. Over 200 million people have visited this pilgrimage site, many of them filled with sickness, infirmities, disease, doubt, and utter despair. No one has ever seen such a procession of suffering in one spot on earth, and yet there is such peace, such serenity, such joy. Holy Church, using the most strict and exacting standards, has officially declared some 70 miraculous bodily healings that admit of absolutely no natural explanation. There are also countless other miracles that go unreported, a special secret between the pilgrim and our Lady of Lourdes. And yes, there are those spiritual conversions where men in the darkness of error and despair are enlightened and filled with hope. After bathing in and drinking of the waters, these men soon find cleansing in the confessional, as well as Solemn Benediction and nourishment in the Most Blessed Sacrament. For those who believe, no explanation is necessary; for those who do not believe, no explanation is possible.--Fr Shannon Collins, Pastor.

To dress becomingly for God and neighbor, and in keeping with the reverence due to the Blessed Sacrament, kindly refrain from wearing shorts, tee-shirts, tank-tops, revealing blouses, sleeveless or backless dresses, or form-fitting clothing of any sort. Please wear dresses and skirts that fall below the knee when sitting even with leggings. With due regard to time and circumstance, all are encouraged to wear decorous attire befitting sacred and divine worship.

EXCERPTS FROM POPE PIUS XII EASTER MESSAGE, APRIL 21, 1957

E HAVE OFTEN HAD OCCASION to point out that the people of all nations and all continents are now forced to live in fear and uncertainty in a world that is upset

and upsetting. Everything has become relative and provisional… Error in what seems to be innumerable forms has enslaved the intelligence of men who are in many ways very gifted. Vices of every kind have reached such a level of precociousness, shamelessness, and universality as to be a serious cause of concern to anyone who gives a thought to the fate of the world. Mankind resembles a sick and wounded body whose blood is just barely circulating, for individuals, classes, whole peoples stubbornly remain divided and out of touch with each other. When they do not ignore each other, then they hate each other; they plot, they fight, they destroy.” But, being the Vicar of the Good Shepherd, he would like to see this night of trial and expansion of evil give way to a “dawn, which will bathe the world in the rays of a new sun… And yet all this is still night. A night full of rumblings and hopes, it is true, but still night. … Is it not true that science, technology, and organization have often become sources of terror to men? For they no longer feel secure as they once did. They see quite clearly that no progress will of itself remake the world… There are many who have already seen—and admit—that we have reached this night of the world because Jesus has been arrested, and men have tried to exclude Him from family, cultural, social life; because the people have risen up against Him, because He has been crucified and rendered silent and inert. And there is a host of ardent and eager souls who fully realize that this death and burial of Jesus was possible only because some of His friends denied and betrayed Him… We must remove the sepulchral stone that has been used to shut truth and goodness away in the tomb. We must make Jesus rise—a real resurrection, which will permit no further dominion of death… Come, O Lord Jesus. Mankind does not have the strength to roll away the stone that it has made itself in trying to hinder your return. Send Thy Angel, O Lord, and make our night grow bright like the day.” Q
