Update on the Religious Education Program
All classes (Grades 1 - 10) will meet every Sunday
8:30 to 9:30 am. They will then attend mass at
9:30. At 9:40, after Fr. blesses the children, they

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
On the weekend of June 24, our diocese will take up
the Peter’s Pence Collection. Our participation supports the
charitable work of Pope Francis as he reaches out to those
who are marginalized and suffering around the globe. By
supporting this collection, you join the Holy Father in bringing
a little more mercy into the world.
Pope Francis challenges us to look at those around
us with the eyes of mercy. At a Papal Audience he said, “We
encounter so many weary and oppressed people today . . .
And how is our heart? Is it merciful? And our way of thinking
and acting, is it inclusive?” (Jubilee Audience, Nov. 12,
2016). I invite you to reflect on how you feel moved to an-
swer the call to mercy.
In Iraq, many people still live a nightmare of war and
violence. This has left many displaced, including young peo-
ple in the midst of their studies. Without an educated popula-
tion, it will be difficult for the country to gain stability. Thanks
to support from this collection, the Archdiocese of Erbil, in
Iraqi Kurdistan, has received funding for 10 scholarships for
young displaced persons. With this help, the students can
complete their university education and move forward with
the hope of rebuilding their country.
Let us join with our brothers and sisters in faith from around
the globe to help Pope Francis reach the marginalized in our
world. I ask that you prayerfully consider how you can best
support the collection this year. For more information about
the good works that result and the response over past years,
please visit the website of the U. S. Conference of Catholic
Bishops at www.usccb.org/peters-pence.
Thank you for considering how you can respond to
the call to be a “Witness of Charity” by your prayers, your
spreading the word about this good work, and by your finan-
cial support.
With every prayerful best wish, I remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Robert J. McManus, S.T.D.
Bishop of Worcester
GLORIA
You take away the sins of the world,
receive our prayer,
You are seated at the right hand of the
Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One;
You alone are the Lord.
You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,
With the Holy Spirit,
In the glory of God, the Father.
Amen
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to people of good will.
We praise you,
we bless you,
we adore you,
we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord, God, Heavenly King,
O God, almighty Father.
Lord, Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
You take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us:
GATHERING HYMN Come, Ye Thankful People, Come
ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE B
LITURGY OF THE WORD
FIRST READING EZ 17:22-24
Thus says the Lord GOD: I, too, will take from the crest of the cedar, from its topmost branches tear
off a tender shoot, and plant it on a high and lofty mountain; on the mountain heights of Israel I will
plant it. It shall put forth branches and bear fruit, and become a majestic cedar. Birds of every kind
shall dwell beneath it, every winged thing in the shade of its boughs. And all the trees of the field shall
know that I, the LORD, bring low the high tree, lift high the lowly tree, wither up the green tree, and
make the withered tree bloom. As I, the LORD, have spoken, so will I do.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM PSALM 92
SECOND READING 2 COR 5:6-10
Brothers and sisters: We are always courageous, although we know that while we are at home in the
body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yet we are courageous, and we
would rather leave the body and go home to the Lord. Therefore, we aspire to please him, whether we
are at home or away. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may
receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil.
GOSPEL MK 4:26-34
Jesus said to the crowds: “This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter
seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and through it all the seed would sprout and
grow, he knows not how. Of its own accord the land yields fruit, first the blade, then the ear, then the
full grain in the ear. And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has
come.”
He said, “To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? It is like a
mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. But
once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that
the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.” With many such parables he spoke the word to them as
they were able to understand it. Without parables he did not speak to them, but to his own disciples
he explained everything in private.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
HOMILY
NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all things
visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only
Begotten Son of God, born of the Father be-
fore all ages. God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God, begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father; through him
all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came
down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit
was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and be-
came man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius
Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day in
accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the
right hand of the Father. He will come again
in glory to judge the living and the dead and
his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver
of life who proceeds from the Father and the
Son, who with the Father and the Son is
adored and glorified, who has spoken
through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic
Church. I confess one baptism for the forgive-
ness of sins and I look forward to the resur-
rection of the dead and the life of the world to
come. Amen.
