THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
4 204
Praying for the dead is a part of our rich Catholic Tradition. We see examples in the Scripture and the early Church of offering prayers for the dead. There is a beautiful quote from St. Monica, the mother of St. Augustine when she is about to die.“Lay this body anywhere and do not let the care of it be a trouble to you… only this I ask: that you remember me at the Lord’s altar, wherever you are.”
Jesus’ saving work is applied over space and time through the offering of the Holy Mass. Our participation in the Mass, allows us to receive the graces that come from Christ. Because of our belief in the communion of the saints, a central teaching in our Creed, the living and the dead are not separated in spirit. We believe the prayers of the Saints in heaven can assist us in our daily spiritual journey. So too, our prayers and works of charity can assist the souls in their purification from Purgatory to Heaven.
One of the great corporal and spiritual works of mercy is to bury the dead and to pray for the dead. On November 1 and 2, we celebrated the feasts of All Saints and All Souls respectively. These two feasts remind us of our destiny. We are all called to holiness. By the grace of God, we are to become Saints. Yet, we also know our own human weakness and sinfulness. God wants to give us every possibility to be purified and made whole so that we can enjoy the fullness of eternal life – heaven.
Praying for our beloved dead is a great act of charity. Our prayers assist them. When they arrive in heaven, they return the assistance through their prayers. Throughout the month of November, we remember our beloved dead. I would like to extend an invitation to everyone for our annual Mass of Remembrance. On Monday, November 4 we remember all of our beloved dead especially those who died from our parish in the past year.
Have a good week! Fr. Keith
P.S. On Wednesday, the Diocesan priests throughout the Diocese gather for fraternity, prayer and ongoing formation for the annual Priest Convocation. Thanks to Fr. Elias, we will have our regular 8 am Mass. However, there will be no 12:10 on Wed, Thur. or Friday.
Parish Prayer for the month of November
Requiem Aeternam Prayer
Eternal rest, grant unto him/her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him/her.
May s/he rest in peace. Amen.
May his/her soul and the souls of all the
faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

paz.
Amén. ___________________________________

More information about 40 Days for Life can be found at www.40daysforlife.com. ________________________________________________ Join the volunteer In a Peaceful Prayer Pilgrimage for the Unborn Saturday November 9, 2019 The Pilgrimage begins with Mass where we empty ourselves, so that we may be filled up by Christ who is the light, the truth, and the way. Monsignor Reilly, founder of the Helpers, tells us, “For us to be Christlike at the abortion site, we have to give God permission to be in us, we have to remove all the baggage, anything that would hide or disguise Christ’s presence!” At the end of Mass before we proceed to the abortion site we start a fast. With the exception of prayer, we fast from speaking, by doing so, we endeavor to keep a purity of heart and mind to offer ourselves as vessels for Christ to battle the evil one at the abortion site. Pope John Paul II told us in his Encyclical, The Gospel of Life, that “Jesus himself has shown us by his own example that prayer and fasting are the first and most effective weapons against the forces of evil (cf. Mt 4:1-11). As he taught his disciples some demons cannot be driven out except in this way (cf. Mk 9:29). Let us, therefore, discover a new the humility and the courage to pray and fast, so that power from on high will break down the walls of lies and deceit.” At the AWC Abortion Site “We go to Calvary where innocent blood is being shed, but we must go with the same mindset and heart of Jesus Christ. We must go as Mary and St. John at the foot of the cross.” (Monsignor Reilly) Celebrant: Fr. Dennis Wilde, Associate Director of Priests for Life Mass: 8:00 AM Notre Dame Church of Bethlehem 1861 Catasauqua Road, 18018 Rosary: after Mass at the abortion site, AWC, 31 S. _____________________________________ Donation of Altar Flowers
Flowers beautify the sacred space of our church and are a gift to God and those who attend our Masses.
Many people have special days in the year which they commemorate. Flowers on the altar of Our Lady of Mercy
Church can fittingly mark anniversaries, the birth of a child, marriage, baptism or death, or may be used as an expression
of joy of thanksgiving at any time. We are trying something new for our parish. We will begin
with a flower donation once a month. When flowers are given in thanksgiving or as a memorial, an announcement
will be made at all weekend masses noting the memorial or occasion for the flowers. Currently, the suggested donation
for Altar Flowers is $40.
If you would like to donate flowers, please contact the parish office today 610-252-7381 to reserve your date.
OLOM Parish is participating in the Priority Staples Program to donate cereal. However,
there is a monthly Wish List posted in the rear of
the church. If you are able, please donate. _____________________________________
