Welcoming/Registration

Our next parish Welcoming/Registration will be on Sunday, September 10, following the 10AM Mass in the Gathering Room of the Church. You will be given parish information and a brief tour of the property, and will complete a registration form which will ask which sacraments your family members have received. We look forward to meeting you.

Hi everyone! My name is Anthony Ferguson. I’m thrilled to be assigned here at Our Lady of Mount Car-mel as your new pastoral year seminarian.

I wanted to share a bit of my story with you all. I’m technically a convert to the Catholic faith. I was bap-tized in a Presbyterian Church when my family lived in Pittsburgh. We moved to the Richmond area when I was 5, however, and my family started going to the local Catholic parish. Since then, Sunday Mass has been a constant presence in my life. My faith only became real for me, though, after I graduated from the University of Richmond and began working in the “real world.”

After working for about 3 or 4 years as a graphic designer, God made it quite clear that He wanted me to enter the seminary and discern the priest-hood. To this day, I’m not sure how or why I received this grace! The Lord has been so good, so patient, so gentle with me, and I’m excited more than ever to hopefully be one of His priests. It’s not an easy process by any stretch, but it’s worth it.

My other hobbies and interests include voraciously reading theology books, riding roller coasters, cheering for the Penguins and Steelers, going to con-certs, visiting art museums, and hanging out in coffee shops. I also abso-lutely love drawing. In fact, my dream growing up was always to become a famous cartoonist!

Once again, I’m so glad to be here at Mount Carmel. I’ve been praying for you all and I can’t wait to get to know many of you over the course of this year. In Christ, Anthony Ferguson

Thank You from Chris Masla

Kingdom Kids Nursery (1-3 yrs) KidCheck account required. The Nursery is offered during the 10:00 a.m. Mass for children ages 1-3 years old. The nurturing staff and volunteers provide a safe, Christian environment for the children in their care. Parents who utilize the nursery are asked to volunteer about one Sunday per month to keep our Co-Op Nursery staffed each Sunday.

Kingdom Kids Worship (1st-5th Grades) Kingdom Kids Worship provides a liturgical adaptation of the Sunday readings for children in 1st-5th grade. “The Children Celebrate! Liturgy of the Word with Children” program guides the parish catechists’ proclamation of the Gospel. At OLMC, Kingdom Kids Worship is available at the 10:00am Mass on the first, second and third Sunday of the month. Children process out of Mass & return before the Eucharist.

KidCheck: Free Secure Check In System KidCheck is a secure check-in for the Nursery and other Children’s Ministry offerings. Signing up for KidCheck is easy and free to parents. Register today at go.kidcheck.com or go to olmc.org.

Baptisms Baptisms at OLMC are celebrated seven times throughout the year. Whether you are parents-to-be, parents of an infant, or parents of a young child, we invite you to consider having your child baptized into the Catholic faith at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Parents are encouraged to register early to accommodate family and godparents schedules.

We are now registering for Fall baptisms. Contact Deacon Francisco @ 595-0385, x123 or e-mail [email protected].

First Sacrament Parent Orientation Do you have a child in second or third grade? You are invited to the upcoming Sacrament Parent Orientation to find out the requirements for First Penance (Reconciliation) and First Holy Communion in our diocese. Children are to be registered in OLMC School or Children’s Ministry through our parish in addition to participating in the Sacrament preparation process. Please join us on Sunday, August 27, at 11:15am in Saint Michael Hall. An overview of preparation for First Reconciliation and the Reception of First Eucharist will be given as well as schedules, calendars and textbooks for sacramental catechesis.

Come, Learn about the Catholic Faith We encourage al l parishioners to invite someone to explore the Catholic faith. You are the best invitation a person can receive. On Tuesday, September 5th, we will have

an Open House for those who wish to hear about the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. We will meet at 7:00pm in St. Michael Hall. Please consider coming to listen and see if this is the right process for you! Please call Christa in the Parish Office if you have any questions.

Catholics Come Home Have you been away from the active practice of your Catholic Faith? Would you like to feel more connected with your childhood faith or learn more about it as an adult? Consider attending the Catholics Come Home process. We can help you feel welcome at the Lord’s Table and return to the active practice of your faith. The Catholics Come Home Process will: help you reconnect with your faith; update your knowledge of your faith; address any pastoral issues that may have kept you away; and most important: Return to the Lord’s Table!

Gathered By Grace

Gathered By Grace: Intergenerational Faith Formation At Gathered By Grace, adults, youth, and children come together twice a month. These gatherings are an opportunity to get to know

fellow parishioners, and deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ. The concept of lifelong learning invites each

of us to continuously grow in our faith by learning and sharing with others in our community. We begin with a light meal, then break out into age groups. Adults, youth and children experience the Word of God and discover Church teachings through the same doctrinal themes. During each session, adults participate in adult presentations and discussions. At the same time, children and youth are introduced to a new unit of study by catechists in age-appropriate groups. Parents then reinforce the unit theme with their children throughout the month. Gathered By Grace begins Sunday, September 24! Register TODAY at olmc.org!

SPRED (Special Religious Develop-ment) prepares persons with intel-lectual disabilities to fully belong in the liturgical life of the parish. Catechists welcome their friends into a small faith community where the Word of God is shared through symbolic catechesis. OLMC cur-rently has three SPRED groups (for adults 18 and older) that meet on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. If you know of someone who wants to participate in SPRED or if you are interested in becoming a mentor, contact Christa at 595-0385, x107 or Miki at 596-7162.

Assistive Listening Devices Available Our parish offers personal As-sisted Listening Devices (ALD’s). An ALD is a small, personal receiver device meant to work with or without a hearing aid in order to help ensure that everyone who comes to worship will be able to hear what is being said.

These devices are available for loan during all litur-gies. OLMC has 4 ALD receivers with earbuds which can be checked out at the Welcome Desk before weekend Masses. If you could benefit from using an ALD during any other gathered event at OLMC, please contact the parish office.
