Staff Connection... Parish Mission Statement George Green Parish Center 113 North Geneva Street Ithaca, NY 14850 *** 607/273-6121 Happy New Year, 2018! As we usher in 2018, I am filled with deep gratitude to God, to our faith community, great volunteers and all who do so much to support the mission of Christ in our parish. I am overwhelmed by your generous and solidarity in your various contributions to build a strong faith-filled parish. Your sacrifice and love are bearing fruit in abundance by in making our parish a place to encounter our Lord, a place to pray, foster devotions, nurture talents and a place to strengthen bonds of fraternal charity. A very special thanks to all who helped in any way during Christmas to make our celebra- tions joyous and nourishing, especially the music ministry, Liturgy teams, just to name a few. Thank you! Lets endeavor always to make our parish a place to thrive and flourish in our Christian voca- tion. May we draw strength from the Eucharist to live and serve in the Name of Jesus our Lord and give witness to his love in our society. Asante sana, heri ya mwaka mpya 2018! The Feast of Epiphany The feast of Epiphany had its origin in Egypt, where it used to be a pagan feast celebrating the victo- ry of light over darkness. Christian Liturgy takes up this theme and proposes it for our reflection in our readings for this Sunday. The first reading invites the Israelites to shed their mourning because the Lord, Yahweh, her spouse who had abandoned her because of her infidelity, has taken her back. Not only does her spouse re- turn, her exiled sons also returned to her. Israel only needs to lift her eyes to see them. Their caravan camels loaded up with precious goods of the gold and incense. They all move to the holy mountain because the light of the Lord has illumined other people too. Jerusalem is once again the Centre and will remain so forever. Isaiahs dream came to pass when the light of Christ shines through the city. The city represents the Church, the one in whom shines the light of the Messiah and all people moves towards her, bringing with them all riches of their cultures. St. Paul in the second reading articulates very clearly that the beneficiaries of the liberation and salva- tion announced by the prophet are all the peoples and every nation of the world. God planned that Jews and Gentiles should become one people: the people of God. All divisions should disappear. With the coming of Christ a new reality has come into being; men and women would live like broth- ers and sisters. Jesus came to tell us that we are the children of one Father. May this become true in our lives. Try in one way or other to be the star that guides others to the Lord Jesus in 2018. Amani kwenu! Fr. Chumo Sacraments Baptism: A preparaon session is required before the bapsm of your child. Please call 273-6121 prior to your due date for an appointment. The journey of the Magi was no small venture It likely took months to journey from the east to finally have the opportunity to have a personal encounter with the infant Jesus Knowing that Jesus is the Messiah they brought their finest gifts to present to him

Unlike the Magi we do not have to make the long physical jour-ney in order to encounter Jesus Jesus does ask us to offer a gift to

him however That gift is the gift of our whole heart Jesus asks us to give our hearts and to encounter him daily through prayer

through those we interact with and through service to others Gold frankincense and myrrh are very valuable offerings How-

ever they are no match to the offering of our hearts to Christ each and every day

Caring for Godrsquos Creation Solar Power for Everyone

your own house You just need to sign up with a supplier of solar electricity The cost is the comparable-and often LOWER-than electricity generated by fossil fuels This is a great and easy way to better protect Godrsquos beautiful creation Come find out how you can sign up A presentation will take place on Wednesday Janu-ary 17 700pm at Cornell Cooperative Extension located at 615 Willow Ave in Ithaca Sponsored by ICAN (Interfaith Climate-Justice Action Network)
