Our Mission — Nuestra Misión

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, has been serving the com-munity of South Ozone Park and beyond since 1923. We are a diverse multi-ethnic Catholic community in a neighborhood of people of many faiths. We are called in Baptism to proclaim the presence of Christ in Word and are nourished with the Body and Blood of Christ in Communion. We follow Jesus Christ proclaiming him to parish and neighborhood; and we use our gifts and talents to serve others.

SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME; JOHN 1,29-34

We hear these words at every Mass as the Host and chal-ice are raised for all to see. They are so familiar that per-haps they have lost some of their force. So let’s take a closer look at his marvelous invitation. Behold. Don’t just glance. Behold. Look deeply, carefully, and prayer-fully. Look with the expectation that you will discover something important. Trust that Jesus wants to reveal himself to you. Behold the Lamb of God. What are you beholding? God’s greatest gift to the world-to you-. You are beholding Jesus, the one true sacrifice sent from heaven. He is the spotless Lamb, innocent of all sin and meek and gentle of heart. He is fulfillment of ancient Israel’s Passover celebration. He has come so that you can pass over from death to life, from slavery to free-dom. Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin. Look closely. See in this Host the promise of for-giveness. See Jesus, who surrendered his body and blood on a cross for you. See Jesus, who has taken your very sin upon himself and brought it into the grave with him. See him rising again, leaving your sin behind in that grave, where it remains today, dead and buried. You are no longer bound by it. Jesus has borne it away, and you can walk away from it too-step by halting step as you continue to place your faith in him. Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. Not just your sin, but the sin of every single person on earth, past, present and future. No one is beyond his reach. No one is devoid of hope. Everyone can know forgiveness and freedom. Even the people you are struggling to for-give. Behold him, and believe that he can bring reconcil-iation and healing to all people. Behold, the Lamb of God ! And receive him with joy and an open heart.

VOCATION PRAYER CHALICE PROGRAM

This program encourages families to pray regularly for vocations to priesthood and consecrated life. Each week a family would receive the Vocational Chalice at Mass and take it home with a promise to “pray for vocations” during the week. The family would place the chalice in a prominent place in

their home and would gather together each day to pray around the chalice asking God to help raise awareness for vocations in our parish. Prayers booklets will be given to the family with a different prayer each day. At the end of the week, the family would bring the chalice back to the parish so the next family could take it home. We hope that through prayer, our parish may become a source of vocations to serve the diocese and the Church, if you are interested, please speak to Deacon Jorge Alvarado or come to the parish sacristy to regis-ter. Thank You. PROGRAMA DE ORACION / CALIZ VOCACIONAL Este programa tiene el propósito de motivar a las familias a orar regularmente por las vocaciones sacerdotales y a la vida consagrada. Cada semana una familia recibirá el caliz vocacional durante la misa y se lo llevará a su casa con el compromise de “orar por las vocaciones” durante esa sema-na. La familia pondrá el cáliz en un lugar adecuado y visible en su casa y se reuniran cada dia alrededor del caliz para orar, pidiendo la ayuda de Dios por las vocaciones en nuestra Iglesia católica y muy en especial en nuestra parroquia. (usen las oraciones sugeridas en el libro que se le ha entregado). Al final de la semana, la familia regresará con el caliz a la par-roquia para poder entregar a la siguiente familia. Tenemos la esperanza que por medio de la oración, nuestra parroquia será una fuente de vocaciones para servir a la diócesis y a la Iglesia.
