Dear Parishioners,
As we enter a new Liturgical Year in
our celebration of the first Sunday of
Advent, let us take time to once again
reflect on who Jesus is for us. I think it
is good to be reminded that the baby
Jesus born in Bethlehem on a cold
night more than two thousand years ago is the same
Jesus who suffered and gave up his life for us so that we
may be freed from sin and death.
Let us not be carried away by the joys and cheers of
the secular celebration of the Christmas season that we
forget the reason why Jesus Christ came - He came to
save us and He will come again to take all the faithful to
himself and bring them to heaven. And that is what
Advent is all about, our preparation for His second
coming. It might be good to think of how we are
preparing.
While it is good to spend some time secularly
preparing for our Christmas celebrations (shopping for
gifts, decorating the house, planning Christmas parties,
planning the Christmas meal, etc.) let us be reminded
that Christmas is primarily not a celebration of the
secular world - it is a celebration of those who have
faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior. With that,
we have to prepare our souls not just for the birthday
of Jesus but for His second coming.
As we go through this Advent season, let us persevere
in the practice of our faith. It is only in doing that, that
we can truly prepare for our Lord's coming again in
glory.
We are blessed because we have this season of Advent
as an annual reminder that as we live our lives
according to our faith, we are preparing for our Lord's
coming again which will mark the beginning of our life
with Him for eternity. I hope that when that time
comes, we are truly prepared.
May God bless us all with a fruitful and meaningful
Advent Season.
In Christ, Fr. Maro

MINISTRY OF THE WORLD Support the Retirement Fund for Religious – A donor writes, “Your flyer touched my heart – seeing the retired religious, such memories surfaced.” Do you remember the sisters, brothers, or religious order priests who made a positive difference in your life? Today many are elderly and need assistance. Their religious communities struggle to meet retirement needs while continuing to serve the people of God. Please be generous and give to next week’s second collection.
