Greetings! What a joy it has been to begin my journey at Our Lady Queen of Peace as your new Director of Music! I cannot thank you all enough for the kindness, acceptance, and support you have given to me as I have settled into the parish community. I look forward to getting to know all of you on a more personal and faith filled musical level as well. They say that participating in music ministry is like “praying twice.” I whole heartedly believe this to be true! My music ministry journey began when I was 12 years old and was given the opportunity to partake in our liturgy on various instruments (piano, flute, cello, chimes, and timpani) at Christ The King Church, located in my home town of New Vernon, NJ. I had always been fascinated with the organ, and began taking lessons with the church’s music minister shortly thereafter. Coming at that experience as a primary pianist, the organ certainly proved to be “The King of All Instruments,” and I was hooked! I participated on a volunteer basis in music ministry at my home church as well as St. Vincent de Paul in Stirling, NJ until I was 20 years old, at which point I had been offered my first full time position as Director of Music at Saint Joseph’s Church in North Plainfield. My next music minister position was held for close to 11 years at St. Elizabeth-St. Brigid Parish in Far Hills, NJ. I had a brief stint at United Presbyterian Church in Middletown, NY, this past January 2019, however not too long into my time there was when Father Ed and I began talking about the potential of me taking the position as your new Director of Music here. So, at the present moment, I offer 15 years of professional experience in liturgical music, the vast majority of that being held within the Catholic Church. I do wish to help promote growth within the music ministry here at Our Lady Queen of Peace. Beginning this summer, I would love to start working with anyone whom might be interested in leading our congregation in song as a cantor for weekend masses. If this is something that you are interested in, please reach out to me after mass, through the parish office, or via email at [email protected]. I am also planning to reinstate both the adult and children’s choir, and rehearsals will begin this upcoming fall. Announcements and notifications regarding the rehearsal days and times will come about later this summer as well. I am also seeking out instrumentalists to provide additional music for special liturgies within the liturgical year, such as Christmas and Easter, etc. Outside of my music ministry, I spend my time giving private piano and flute lessons in Andover and Montague on weekdays. Outside of work, I greatly enjoy spending time outdoors with my husband and two daughters, snuggling with our pets: 3 cats and 2 bunnies, maintaining our vegetable/fruit garden, and performing with the nonprofit chorale and orchestra, The Tim Keyes Consort. Thank you for your ongoing support as we create music together in His name! God Bless, Mary Chobrda
