LECTURAS DE HOY

Primera Lectura: Nosotros somos testigos de cuanto él hizo en Judea y en Jerusalén. Lo mataron colgándolo de la cruz, pero Dios lo resucitó al tercer día.( Hch 10;39-40A). Salmo: Éste es el día del triunfo del Señor (Salmo 117) Segunda Lectura: Hermanos: Puesto que han resucitado con Cristo, busquen los bienes de arriba, donde está Cristo, sentado a la derecha de Dios. LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD DIARIA - RECONOCER A DIOS EN LOS MOMENTOS ORDINARIOS "Me acuerdo que nevó en Pascua cuando era pequeña y vivía en Alexandria, Virginia. Fue rarísimo ver la nieve en esa época del año. Nos levantamos y nos pusimos nuestras ropas de primavera para poder jugar en la nieve en camino a la misa de Pascua. Me acuerdo que estaba pensando que ese día no se sentía co-mo Pascua. Me parecía difícil pensar en las cosas nuevas que crea Dios en un día tan frío y tan lleno de nieve. Honestamente, creo que corrimos a casa después de la misa para poder ponernos nuestras pijamas calientitas y para poder ver la tele por el resto del día, todos acurrucados en el sillón con colchas. Pudo haber sido cualquier domingo de enero. Este año hay poca probabilidad de que nieve en Pascua aquí donde vivo en North Carolina. Pero para muchos otros, puede nevar. Para ellos la Pascua no tiene nada que ver con la resurrección de Jesucristo, de una vida nueva, o algo parecido. Para ellos puede ser cualquier domingo. A muchos no les importa, ni piensan de Jesús o Dios en cualquier domingo del año. Pero para otros, no se sentirá como Pascua porque lo han olvidado. En éste día, se sentaran en sus casas, como cualquier otro día de sus vidas. Puede que sean pobres, viejos, discapacitados, o simplemente solos. En este día, no hay celebración de la resurrec-ción porque no tienen experiencia de la alegría de vivir. Es aquí donde los buenos discípulos cotidianos pueden hacer una diferencia. En medio de comprar dulces y decorar huevos para las canastas y de comprar nueva ropa para la misa de Pascua, encuentra a alguien que necesita descubrir el poder de la Pascua. No les digas que Jesús resucitó por ellos, enséñales. En vez de un frío aislamiento, llévales el calor de una nueva vida."

WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED

Question: What is the most important holiday on the Catholic calendar?

Answer: In our daily life, we often refer to "holidays." The word "holiday" actually comes from the word "holy day." More than a simple celebration or family gathering, these days connect us to God in a unique way. We remember - and share in - the events in God's plan of salvation. Some feasts may be cele-brated with more traditions and secular attention, like Christmas, but the most important holy day is Easter.

When Jesus died and rose again, he destroyed the ul-timate weapon of sin and made it possible for us to have eternal life with him in Heaven. Without the res-urrection, St. Paul tells us, our faith is in vain. This past Holy Week, we walked through the Paschal Mystery, the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ. Easter is commemorated each time we cele-brate the Mass. As St. John Paul II said, "we are an Easter people and alleluia is our song!" Jesus was born for Easter. Our joyful celebration of the resur-rection is at the core of what it means to be a Chris-tian!

¿POR QUÉ HACEMOS ESO? - EXPLICACION DE LA VIDA CATÓLICA

Pregunta: ¿Cuál es la fiesta más importante en el cal-endario católico?

Respuesta: En nuestra vida diaria, a menudo nos re-ferimos a "dia de Precepto". La palabra "Precepto" en realidad proviene de la palabra "día santo". Más que una simple celebración o reunión familiar, estos días nos conectan con Dios de una manera única. Re-cordamos y compartimos los eventos en el plan de salvación de Dios. Algunas fiestas se pueden celebrar con más tradiciones y atención secular, como la Navi-dad, pero el día santo más importante es la Pascua.

Cuando Jesús murió y resucitó, destruyó la última ar-ma del pecado y nos permitió tener vida eterna con él en el Cielo. Sin la resurrección, nos dice San Pablo, nuestra fe es en vano. En esta pasada Semana Santa, caminamos a través del Misterio Pascual, el su-frimiento, la muerte y la resurrección de Cristo. La Pascua se conmemora cada vez que celebramos la Misa. Como dijo San Juan Pablo II, "¡somos un pueb-lo de Pascua y nuestra canción es el aleluya!" Jesús nació para la Pascua. ¡Nuestra alegre celebración de la resurrección está en el centro de lo que significa ser cristiano!

If we do want to live an authentic life, if we do want to become more per-fectly ourselves, a-better-version-of-ourselves, walk with God—one of the things that we discover is that we re-ally need to unburden ourselves. Our lives are in desperate need of simplifying. Our lives are in des-perate need of simplicity. And we're just so good at collecting baggage. The first time I walked the Camino, I remember that the guidelines were to pack twenty pounds—to have a pack that did not weigh more than twenty pounds. And I did a lot of study about what to take, what not to take, and the one thing that came up over and over and over in everything I read was that “you will take stuff that you will not use.” And the follow-on point from that was that “you will find yourself throwing stuff away, day by day, as you make this five-hundred-mile walk. You'll find yourself throwing stuff away because you re-alize you don't need it, you're not going to need it, and you've got to carry it, on your back, every day, for twenty-five miles in the beginning, through the Pyrenees.” I'm out there, and I'm walking. I've got twenty pounds, and I think, “We really do complicate life, don't we? When it really comes down to it, what we actually need is very, very little. Very, very lit-tle.” And so, as you make your way through the day to-day, just think about: How do you complicate your life unnecessarily? What are some ways you can simplify your life? Not next year, but today and tomorrow, and next week, and next month. What are some ways you can start simplifying your life right now?

Si queremos vivir una vida auténti-ca, si queremos ser perfectamente nosotros mismos, una mejor versión de nosotros mismos, caminar con Dios, una de las cosas que descubrimos es que realmente necesitamos desahogarnos. Nuestras vidas necesitan desesperadamente simplificarse. Y somos tan buenos recolectando equipaje. La primera vez que caminé por el Camino, recuer-do que las directrices eran empacar veinte libras, tener un paquete que no pesara más de veinte li-bras. Y estudié mucho sobre qué llevar, qué no llevar, y lo que sucedió una y otra vez en todo lo que leí fue que "llevaras cosas que no usarás". Y lo siguiente -en ese punto fue que "te encontrarás tirando cosas, día tras día, mientras haces esta ca-minata de quinientas millas". Te encontrarás arro-jando cosas porque te das cuenta de que no las ne-cesitas, no vas a necesitarlas, y tienes que llevar-las, en tu espalda, todos los días, durante veinticin-co millas desde el comenzando hasta por los Piri-neos ". LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

Christ is risen indeed! We have arrived at the penultimate feast on the Church's calendar, the cause of our joy and our hope. Life has defeated death. Sorrow and suffering do not have the last say. In the resurrection of Jesus we see many reasons to rejoice. Not only has Jesus conquered the specter of visible death, but he restores to us graced life. On Holy Saturday, Jesus descended to the dead and delivered the just souls into heavenly paradise. What are our own Satur-day tombs? Jesus has the power to open them all. That is our invitation, this day most of all. May resurrection joy fill your heart, your family, your workplace, and your commu-nity. Happy Easter!

GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE

The first light of Easter dawn had begun to creep over the horizon. The steadfast women from Fri-day's gory events are returning again to the body of their Lord. "Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" How quickly we return to mundane concerns and how thoroughly God wants to surprise us! Imagine the utter shock upon seeing the stone rolled away, the tomb empty, and a stranger clothed in light proclaiming the impossible. "You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here." He is risen indeed and the world will never be the same. We know from other Gospel passages that Mary Magdalene made haste to the disciples to proclaim the Good News. We know that Peter and John rushed to the tomb to see for them-selves. We know that the wonder and awe of the Resurrec-tion permeated the lives of the apostles until their own dying day. Can we comprehend the utterly world-changing nature of this surprise? The historical reanimation of a dead man is of no real value to us. But we know that Easter Sunday is so much more. By the Resurrection of Jesus, life has triumphed over death for us all. The gates of heaven are opened and the treasury of graces is poured out upon the here and now. This Resurrection Day, let us draw near, amazed yet unafraid, to the risen Christ. Let us recall the words of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, "Jesus is not a character from the past. He lives, and he walks before us as one who is alive, he calls us to follow him, the living one, and in this way to discover for ourselves the path of life" (Easter Vigil, April 15, 2006).

MEDITACIÓN DEL EVANGÉLIO - ALENTAR ENTENDIMIENTO MÁS PROFUNDO DE LA ESCRITURA

Ha resucitado, no está aquí. Igual que las mujeres del Evangelio, vamos de la tumba vacía, de la muerte a la vida. Aun más allá, de encontrando vida, debemos ser esa vida. Se puede ser esa vida, porque Cristo Resucitado vive en nosotros, creciendo en nuestros valores y en nuestras ac-ciones. Por eso, está es la nueva era de ser discípulos misioneros de Jesucristo. ¡Aleluya! ¿Qué nos falta para ser nueva vida? Ser como las mujeres a pesar de su miedo crey-eron lo que escucharon. "No se asusten. Si ustedes buscan a Jesús Nazareno, el crucificad, no está aquí, ha resucitado". (Marcos 16:6). Ahí, precisamente esta el secreto de este Domingo de Pascua. Escuchar y creer, e ir a anunciar el acontecimiento a la famil-ia y amigos. Estamos viviendo un tiempo de muchos miedos, las noticias que escuchamos y vemos por los medios de co-municación no son alentadoras, el desanimo social es con-tundente. Pero el que escoge creer en la presencia de Cristo Resucitado --- es guiado por él a continuar con sus buenos valores y acciones. El punto es no caer en desánimos. Las mujeres buscaban un cadáver, pero encontraron una misión muy distinta, unida a la vida no a la muerte. Ellas, de ser mu-jeres miedosas se han convertido a través de los tiempos en mujeres de la Pascua. ¡Testigos vivos de Jesús! Quizá, se piense por fin se ha llegado al final. Pero en realidad estamos al principio. Recordemos, que, todo empezó en Galilea con Jesús de Nazaret. Este es el compromiso ser testigos y dar testimonio del Resucitado. ¡Aleluya, aleluya!

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS

When I was younger and growing up in Alexandria, VA, I remember one year it actually snowed on Easter. It was crazy to see it that late in the year. We got up and dressed in our best spring clothes so we could venture into the snow on our way to Easter Mass. I remember thinking that the day did not feel much like Easter. It was hard to really get into the mood of God making all things new on a day so cold and full of flurries. If I am honest, I think we rushed home after Mass just so we could get on warm pajamas and just watch TV for the rest of the day, snuggled up on the couch with blankets. It might as well have been a Sunday in January. This year the odds are against it snowing on Easter where I live here in North Carolina. However, for far too many it might as well snow. To them, Easter has nothing to do with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, new life, or anything of the sort. It is just an-other Sunday. Some of them don't care and never think of Jesus or God on any Sunday of the year. But for others, it will not feel like Easter because they have been forgotten. On this day they will sit at home, just like they sit every single day of their lives. They might be poor, elderly, disabled, or simply alone. On this day, there is no resurrection celebration because they have no real experience of the joy of life. This is where good Everyday Stewards can make a difference. In the midst of buying candy and decorating eggs for baskets and buying new clothes to wear to Easter Mass, find someone who needs to experience the power of Easter. Don't tell them Jesus rose from them, but show them. Instead of the cold of isolation, bring to them the warmth of new life.
