Weekly Income For August 24-25 2019
Today we celebrate the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time. Our Readings today talk about humility! Today’s first reading from the book of Sirach, tells us “humble yourself the more -the greater you are, and you will find favor with God.” Jesus says in today’s gospel, “for everyone who exalt himself will be humble, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted” Here are some people (stories) in the Bible that teach us about humility: Naaman (2 Kings 5:1-19); King Solomon ( 2 Chronicles 1:1, 7-12, 6:10-21, 7:1-3, 11-15); John the Baptist: (John 3:22-30); Blessed Virgin Mary ( Luke 1: 38-48). Above all, let's all learn from our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus’s humility is the source and model of our own humility. St Paul put it so beautifully in his letter to the Philippians, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, but EMPTIED HIMSELF, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death — even death on a cross. Therefore, God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil 2:3-11). Make a choice. Chose humility! Stay humble! Amen
Thank you: I would like to thank you for all your prayers, best wishes and love offerings on my Ordination Anniversary last Sunday. Special thanks to the people who organized and helped out with the refreshments right after church last weekend. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. You made my day! May God continue bless you, your families and our community!
