PASTORrsquoS CORNER Forgiveness
ldquoshed for you and for all people
for the forgiveness of sinrdquo
The singular most awesome word in all of humanity is
forgiveness God The Father blesses humanity by
forgiving us God The Son blesses humanity through
His birth ministry suffering death and resurrection
making forgiveness a reality for all the world God
The Holy Spirit continues to breath forgiveness into
we humble pilgrims these forty days
It takes courage might and love for us to share this
God given forgiveness with another who has
wronged is hurting or is against us This is why the
source and power of forgiveness is Godrsquos offering to
us On our own we return hate and evil with more
evil This reality doesnrsquot have to be
Forgiven by God we journey together made able to
be mission partners in the continuation of our
greatest purpose making clear to our neighbors

Worship Services
830 am and 1045 am
As disciples of Jesus Christ we commit ourselves to Godrsquos service by following the
teachings of our Lord and Savior We will study the word of God share His love
and expand His kingdom by nurturing sharing freely and working together
INTERN PASTOR ANGELA SMITH
Lent is the time that Jesus has not yet risen
The Sr High Sunday School class was recently talking about music and how it can be an
expression of our understanding of faith We listened to a song from the heavy metal
genre of rock music The biblical passage that inspired the song is Matthew 2636-46
This passage if you remember is where Jesus is in the Garden of Gethsemane prior to
his betrayal and arrest He tells the disciples he is going to ldquogo over there and prayrdquo[1]
Once he goes over to the place to pray Jesus tells Peter James and John ldquoI am deeply
grieved even to deathrdquo[2] He goes on to pray ldquoMy Father if it is possible let this cup
pass from merdquo And further he says ldquoMy Father if this cannot pass unless I drink it
your will be donerdquo[3] Jesus did not escape pain suffering and sadness in this life
Too often I think we race passed this time of pain suffering and sadness in Jesus life
to get to the risen Christ When we do that we miss out on one of the greatest gifts God
has promised us God has shown us in the life of Jesus that God does not shy away from
the messiness of life but instead is with us all along even when our friends and loved
ones fall asleep like the disciples do in this story of Jesus in the garden God is with us
and gives us courage and strength to takes the next steps This passage is a perfect
illustration of how God is present in our lives particularly though the most troublesome
times Lent gives us the opportunity to reflect on the life of Jesus complete with the
suffering and pain and how we might understand how God works in our own lives
During the Lenten season let us remember Godrsquos promise to always be with us
especially in the worst of times

Icicles and Crocuses A wonder at my window Jeweled curtains you can see They are so sheer and sparkling With spear shaped filigree It is the gift of winter That adds to my delight I see them glisten in the sun To outline fields of white Yet soon the tears are flowing The curtains disappear The robin on my windowsill Tells me that spring is near Icicles melt into the ground Where crocuses await We bid goodbye this winterrsquos night For spring is at the gate Thank God for all the miracles We know there is a reason A time for snow a time to grow So just enjoy the season -Dolores Fruth
What is Lent
Six weeks of self reflection A period known as Lent We fast we meditate we pray In order to repent It is not time to give up things To please our vanity Instead we turn our thoughts to Him Who died to set us free Six weeks of dedication Will lead us to the cross Where we will find forgiveness Instead of being lost A time to seek our Savior As he dies upon the tree That brings the gift of Easter Eternal life for you and me - Dolores Fruth

POETRY CORNER
