Reflections ˜ Reflexiones Gospel: Mark 8:27-35

In this reading, Jesus teaches his disciples what they have gradually come to discover: He is indeed the Messiah. But he is a Messiah who must suffer and die. Peter found this hard to accept. For Peter, the Messiah would not, could not, suffer. Judging by human standards, not God's, Peter failed to accept God's will for the Messiah. Jesus assured all his disciples that they, too, must suffer: deny themselves, take up the cross, and follow him. 1.) Why do people reject other people? Have you ever been rejected for doing what was right or for "not going along with the crowd"? 2.) What "crosses" do you have to "take up" in your life right now? Will you ask Jesus to help you?

Evangelio: Marcos 8:27-35

¿Pedirás ayuda a Jesús?

Pastor s Message˜ Mensaje del Pa´rroco FAITH TO DEEDS

In today's second reading James compares dead faith with active faith. If we see people who are starving and cold, he says, a Christian does not just wish them well, but helps them. Mark and Isabel decided to apply this in their own family. Isabel said, "We go to Mass every Sunday, we pray together at home, and we do things in our

parish, but what else can we do to show people who have no job or home that Jesus loves them?" The children decided to save half of their pocket money and their parents would match the amount. At the end of a month they decided to help a shelter for homeless families trying to regain independence. The director thanked them and introduced them to some resident families. On the way home the younger son said, "They were really nice people. Can we go on helping them?" "Yes," said Isabel. "We've only just begun." Copyright (c) 2011, World Library Publications. Living Stewardship Now The family became regular volunteers at the shelter. They continued to donate money every month along with household and personal items for the families, and gave their time to do chores and make friends. Be a disciple and steward, and teach your children this way of life. Copyright (c) 2011, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

Copyright (c) 2011, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

Copyright (c) 2011, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

Dear Parishioners, The Parish Office has received calls recently about the problems with the bell system. The truth is age has caught up with the system. The bells were not ringing at the correct times or playing the selected music. It has become clear that it has to be replaced. For the last month we have been testing a new computerized system to see what is needed to have the bells and music we have all become accustomed to, working again. The cost of the system is $10,000. I would like to acknowledge and give my heartfelt gratitude to our parishioners listed below who have already made their pledge/donations, raising $4,700 so far. If you are interested in joining them, please place your donation in an envelope marked “BELLS” and leave it at the Parish Office. Thank you in advance for all you do to make our Parish special. Sincerely in Christ,

Liturgy of the Word for Children The 10:00AM (English) and 11:30AM (Spanish) Sunday Masses will again offer the Liturgy of the Word for children. This liturgy provides the opportunity for children ages 5 to 12, to hear the Mass readings in a more understandable form and an age appropriate reflection on the readings. There was some doubt that the 10:00AM (English) liturgy would continue due to the lack of children at Mass, and the reluctance of parents to encourage their children to attend. Also, there has been only one minister to conduct the liturgy for the past several years. If there is any parishioner who might be interested in helping out this ministry, please give your name and phone number/email to the parish office. It’s a spiritually rewarding experience.
