She was recently awarded her "Wood Beads" (advanced training). Lianne has returned to Canberra and rejoined Kama last term as a Cub Leader. She has a child in each of Kama's Joey, Cub and Scout Sections. Welcome home Lianne, and thanks for receiving the baton! The handover will be official at the end December. Help needed for BBQACT Emergency Services Open DaySunday 28 October 2018

This is our last fundraiser for the year, and based on our previous experiencesit will be well worth the effort. There will not be a Bunnings BBQ this yearunless we get called in to cover a cancellation (which is unlikely). We need a few more helpers please between 12 noon and 4pm. Sign uphere: https://www.volunteersignup.org/HXBEX Older Cubs, Scouts and Venturers are welcome but this is not a suitable activityfor toddlers, Joeys or young Cubs. Youth members are asked to wear theiruniform shirt and scarf. It helps a lot with public goodwill! If you are unable to volunteer for a shift, considering making the ESA Open Daya family outing. It’s enormously popular for good reason. More informationhere: https://www.act.gov.au/our-canberra/latest-news/2018/october/esa-open-day. And while you are enjoying the displays, support us by buying a sausageand a drink! This is the roster so far. Jackie will be in touch soon to confirm details (where topark, what to do, etc). Who wouldn't be a Venturer? The opportunities available for youth and leadersin the Venturer Section are AMAAAAZING. Kama Venturers Matt and Bronte, and Kama Leader Brumby (Heidi) went on a scuba diving trip to Vanuatu in Julywith Scouts and Venturers from across the ACT. This term, Kama's Cubs aregoing to learn snorkelling. This will be their first step on a scouting pathwaythat may ultimately equip them for a trip like this one enjoyed by Matt, Bronteand Brumby. Scouting rocks.

Adele from Cubs writes: "SciScouts wasso much fun. You get to make a hugemarble run and see what things work andwhat things don’t work. There is asausage sizzle if you want it. You even getto do crate climbing. It’s much easier ifyou are small. How it works is you stackthree crates on top of each other thenclimb them, and then stack one more, andthen keep on stacking one crate at a time.We also got to make straw towers. Wehad to make a tower that was light andstrong. Poppy, Kayley and I made a towerthat came 3rd. It could hold 2.9kg." Imageshows the careful, nail-biting addition ofweights to the straw tower built byIsabelle, Joshua and Alexander.

Jumble SaleThe first ever Kama Jumble Sale raised$1,600 for Kama. Glowing praise goes tothe indefatigable Rajvi who worked hard to

get the event both organised and widelyadvertised. Rajvi and Kevin worked theirmagic on social media, while Jackie didthe old standby of road-side signs. Wehad a great team keeping the BBQhumming and Hardip produced deliciouscurries. The Venturers organised a jelly-bean guessing competition and Natasha’schocolate trailer was definitely the crowdfavourite. I managed to score $4 worth ofchocolate for the bargain price of$12! LOL. The cake stall wasoutstanding! Thanks to all who ran ajumble stall, for contributions of food, materials and labour, and for comingalong to spend a few dollars.

As you would be aware, drought is severe and widespread across Australia. TheScout Association of Australia has issued a blanket badge to help raise funds fordrought relief. The Kama Committee has purchased 100 badges and is asking

Kama's members to buy a badge. The cost is $5, and $3 goes to drought relief.

This is not a Kama fundraiser and we keep nothing from the sale of thesebadges. You can read more about where the funds will be distributed on the Scouts

Australia website here: https://scouts.com.au/blog/2018/09/17/drought-relief-blanket-
